KO2's, they really are worth the price. Hit up costco or wait for sales.

Falken AT3W. Great tire for the money, look good and performs awesome in everything I've put them through. Surprisingly quite with good road manners.IMG_1083.jpgIMG_1079.jpg

I've been driving 4wd's for 44 years now. I'm on truck #17. 4th Tacoma, 5th Toyota. I've had every imaginable brand and type of tire, from the bias ply days to the newest radials. I drive in excess of 40,000 miles a year now. Used to be well over 60K. So....I have a few opinions based on actually wearing out a few tires....

I had Duratracs prior to current tires. I liked the Duratracs because they looked good, were made by a name brand manufacturer, and they did OK off road. I DISliked them because they rode rough, were hard to keep balanced, and made a lot of noise for no more aggressive than they really are. I had 265/75r16 load range C Duratracs.

I replaced them with what I think is one of the best, if not THE best off road tire on the market today. Cooper STT PRO's...I went back with 285/75r16 load range E. They ride light years better than the Duratracs. Quieter (not by a huge margin) Less vibration, easy to balance (and they stay balanced) Only down side is they wear like a mud tire. (Tracking wear, I expect 50,000 to 55,000 miles life)

I have been avoiding E load range tires like the plague because they are so stiff and heavy and I don't need them. I could see a C load range. The Duratracs are a soft tire so they should ride well but the reviews seem mixed on them. Doesn't that Cooper seem stiff and heavy? If not then I might consider the 47 pound Dick Cepek Extreme Country in E load range. They are kind of a hybrid E if that makes any sense because of the lighter sidewall design. They are also made by Cooper.

I had to run 38 to 42 psi in the Duratracs to get them to ride like they weren't square.

I currently run 29 psi in the STT Pros. They ride like a dream compared to the "C" Duratracs.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I hear a mix of people say this about the Duratracs and that tire is on my short list. I may need to revise that list. I'm thinking about changing to 17" wheels just to get more options and go with a 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2 or shop and see what else I can find in that size. I just want an aggressive AT (prefer a hybrid) in either standard or C load. There aren't as many choices as one would think when you start looking.

Just realized that the OG general grabber is offered in load range C (265-75 16) if you can find them.

I have them on a Jeep in the 35" flavor and I like them a lot.

Just outside of Durham, NC. I will wait for months (if I can) to see if a price dips super low and take advantage of it. Started looking for tires probably four months before I bought them.

Interesting... I lived out in Durham/ CH for about 7 years while going to school/ grad school at UNC. Will be back visiting in October... via Plane. Don't think it's worth the 3,000 mile drive tho for the tire deal! :)
