    That's great! My class will be $10,500. That is pretty standard around here. It is 1 day a week for 16 months.

    In PA they're busting a lot of fire departments/volunteers, who have any of the pov lights inside the glass of their vehicles. They have to be on the outside, and volunteers can only have the single blue gumball on top.

    The laws in Maine just got less restrictive last year oddly enough.

    Volunteer Firefighter in my small town here in Wyoming. Not many structure fires, but grass and wildland fires are common this time of year. Plus all the idiot truck drivers that catch their brakes on fire, or tip over because they're coming off the mountain too fast.

    I just graduated school last August. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

    Do you guys get a pay raise or incentive for being medics?

    Yes, its a decent pay raise from AEMT to medic, and thank you.

    There is a bit more controversy to that. There is some out dated-ness to that whole clause, and loop holes that were going around a few years ago;

    • The "gumball" is suppose to be for emergency responders - 1 light that has a 360 degree coverage of the vehicle.
    • Per that law even the state police are breaking it.
    • Blue lights fall under courtesy lighting, which don't have any type of restriction.
    What parts of that are true, I have no idea. I have 4 light units, 2 small in my grill and 2 on my windshield. I've never gotten any crap from a cop, in state or outta state.
    They really do need to update the law since its from the 70's and most of the lighting from back then is so outdated it really isn't on the market, everyone is going to the LED, low profile lighting, including the State Police.

    As far as busting on a lot, there hasn't been any of that around my area of the state. Usually that kind of event spreads like wild fire.
    Rule of thumb: don't be an idiot with your lights and you won't have any problems. Run around pretending your a cop... you will have problems.

    (that actually happened, maybe 3-4 years ago. Kid is no longer a member of any department and has had several arrests)

    That isn't true. It must be visible 360° around the vehicle. It can be a gimbal or an LED light bar as long it has 360° visibility. That is the reason some departments are cracking down on blue lights inside the windows.

    I went through medic class in '93, cost $450 through the county fire school. I couldn't imagine the current prices. We didn't need national registry back then though. Good luck.

    Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield

    At regular work we are prepping to load a shit ton of diesel and head down to FL but that's not really an "emergency" response, just standard supply chain support.
