Hey folks. Straight to the point, I've got a 2004 extra cab Tacoma that I want to put a camper shell/canopy on! Obligatory Pic: upload_2017-9-8_15-13-11.jpg

I'm hoping to buy one used cause budget, SO I've been browsing the internet for a few weeks now looking for a decent deal. First I've noticed a CRAZY lack of Tacoma specific shells, and the few that I have found and way overshadowed by the number of Ford Ranger/Chevy/Dodge specific shells.

My question is, does anyone know of any make/models of trucks that share bed dimensions with my 1st Gen? Or any way to quickly find out compatibility? How close do the measurements have to be for the shell to fit properly? Her bed is about 76" X 60" if measuring from outside to outside and 73.5" X 57" inside to inside--BTW which way is standard to measure bed size/shell size?

Help out a scrub, any answers/advice much appreciated!

I have a top made for a first gen that honestly probably wasn't ~made~ for a Tacoma. Jason is the manufacturer, style is 'Trek'. Searched Craigslist for maybe a year? and the best I could find is obviously for a regular cab (the angles are off). I think manufacturers make more of an effort to direct fit tops now.

All of that aside I've heard older ford rangers tops may fit. Google 'Tacoma bed size' and kind of creep through the results and you should find comparison of different trucks and years. I'm assuming you want the top to be as watertight as possible so +/- an inch on each dimension LxW? I would use the measure of outside of the bed rails against the outside dimensions of the top. Obviously the best way to see if it fits is literally going and putting it on your truck.
