I have a set of the thule xsporter bed racks, and soon they will look very out of place since i have no chrome left on the truck and im waiting on my black wheels to arrive. What do you think my best option is for painting them black? They are anodized aluminum, shiny silver color but kind of textured. I know powdercoating would probably be my best option but that might be kinda pricey since they are pretty big. I have never used a spray on bed liner but this might work, or maybe a real tough spray paint. I use the racks all the time for lumber and ladders so its gatta be pretty tough, although i know i will have to redo tem or do touch ups every once in a while. If i do the bedliner can i just clean them really well for prep or do i need to sand first?

They are just aluminum, with proper prep you absolutely can paint or bedline. Its just all about prep if you want it to stick.

Other thing is you could sell them and get the 2013 racks. Saw then at OR earlier this month, they are powder coated and are MUCH improved. If I used one on my truck I would probably go this route, the differences were really really nice.

Hmm reaallyy, youre talking about the thule adjustable bed racks right? Not roof racks? Thules website says anodized aluminum, doubt that makes a difference tho, didnt know if anodizing would effect the powdercoating process.

Edit: nevermind found an article on my second google search haha http://www.mynewsdesk.com/us/pressr...-innovation-and-increased-aerodynamics-783991

Anodizing and powder coating are two totally separate ways to coat aluminum. Nothing similar about them and anodized aluminum can come in any color.

You can paint anodized aluminum, the only issue is that it will require sandblasting before applying paint. I would suggest you to use adhesive promoter as well.
