We are a "throw away" society and things aren't built like they use to be. Theres just something about making vintage machinery serviceable again. Anyway, my newest project is restoring my Grandfather's MF&J Barnes Co. drill press. It functions as is but needs a face lift. I can't wait to get it in the shop. Vintage tools and machinery are beautiful and actually have soul compared to todays China made plastic and cheap casting. If anyone has vintage tools or machinery that they'd like to share please post them. 20170916_125522.jpg 20170916_125608.jpg 20170916_125618.jpg 20170916_125558.jpg

All that old machinery is beautiful to look at. That press must be pretty darn old with having the belt drive. I've got some old vises from Wilton & Parker, and an old tire bead breaker (from Snap-On) but that's mostly it. Thanks for sharing that oldie.

Well for starters here's a late 1800's English anvil. I bought it from my old history teacher who is also a blacksmith. The weight is stamped in the side using the old English hundred weight system. He told me how to read it but just like the history he taught me I forgot. It's just a couple of pounds shy of 200.

I've got my Grandfathers forge and Anvil. I haven't done any forging lately. Anvil is old English, it isn't in a good as shape as that one but it's still rings nice.

I have my grandfathers anvil also, but the corner is gone from when he used to "blow the anvil". My dad (84 years old) said they would do this ever 4th of July! Like this:

You can definitely tell OSHA wasn't around when stuff like this was made. No guards, open gears, drives, belts, chains.

But common sense and pride of their work was around then.
