Need lift help BAD I'm buy a new truck tomorrow and need info before !!!

I'm buying a brand new 2017 Inferno Tacoma Trd sport 4x4 tomorrow and my dealer offered me a 4" lift and 20's with 33's for $3800 , (that seems cheap )( I'm screptical it will even clear that setup ???!!!????)he promised it wouldnt void my warranty as long as I used the company they use , they will have a truck and trailer pick it up at the dealership send it to Houston and in a couple days have it back but my problem is if I can do a 3" lift in my driveway and clear 33's I would rather save a ton of money and do it myself !!! If somebody knows exactly what it would take for me to do the lift myself and could hook me up with a parts list and like offsets for wheels I would love to do it !!!! If I'm asking too much just let me know but i already feel like I've joined a brotherhood just by joining this forum !!!! Thank you for any info you offer !!!

 

Any idea what kind of lift, wheels and tires? Quality makes a huge difference.

 

No idea bro but you know I ain't getting a quality anything for 3800 installed ! He said I could do anything I wanted as long as I didn't cut the frame and I would still be covered under warranty if I decided not to go with the 4" or 6" from his shop in Houston !!

 

It will be a shit lift and crap wheels. "Dealer Special" package. Don't do it.

And for that $3800 they tax you, it will cost them less than 1000

 

save the money and install the lift your self. Buy the lift and tires (not from dealer) set up a mod, some members would be happy to help.

 

Bilstein 5100s with 888 springs, add a leaf, and control arms will run about $1500. Wheels and tires can easily be had for a couple grand mounted, balanced and aligned. Do the lift install yourself and you'll spend about the same for better parts.

 

I'd agree with what others have said. It's probably a cheap spacer and block lift that's wayyyyy marked up

 

They're just sending it to 4WP and putting the cheapest crap they can on there. You buying it from community in Baytown?

 

Tons of info on here about lifts and clearing various tire sizes. You can go anything from bilstein 5100 lifts with OME coils and 3-leaf aal for around $500 to adjustable coilover with full rear leaf pack at probably a little over 2k, depending on options. wheels and tires vary widely based on personal preference. Don't go cheap on wheels. Don't have to buy the best there is, but cheap wheels are a bad idea.

 

I wouldn't do it. These kits/ packages are a great way to take advantage of the consumers that don't know any better.

There's lots of good info here on TW. You'll be able to find what you need and buy once to cry once if you do your homework..

I'd suggest going to a mod day, and pick peoples brains. Maybe ask to ride in trucks with different set ups. Buy the truck you want, enjoy it. Gradually adding things builds a relationship and understanding with your truck you can't buy from the factory.

 

Agreed that it will be a crappy puck suspension up front and maybe blocks in the rear. The rides gonna be stiff for a while, but it will settle in.

The thing is...if you never off-road, it's not really a bad deal. Fully lifted suspension, covered by warranty by the dealer.

If you spend that money on another lift, you're going to have to have a shop do the work if you want a guarantee on workmanship.
And it's going to have to be a legit shop if you expect to have them stick by their word.

 

Drive it for several months stock.
Read a bunch on lifting your Tacoma on this forum.
I predict you will then lift it 3" with a decent kit for about a thousand bucks. You will not go with 20" wheels, you will stick with aftermarket 17's. You will by then learned the correct offset and will buy 285 32" tires. That's another $1500. So in a few months, you save $1300 and get a decent quality lift.

That is my prognostication...

 

If it's the dealer, they are probably putting on a rev tech spacer lift and charging 8 hours of labor to do it. Waste of money.

Not saying a spacer lift is bad, but it's not good either. And the dealer always charges way more labor than things actually take to do.
