Planning road trip. I need Ideas, comments, do's and don't

Hi,
I'm currently grabbing informations, comments, suggestions about a future trip I would like to do in a year or so. I live in the North East but would like to do a road trip and see/ride Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada... with the family (wife and 2 kids)

I plan doing the trip with an rv trailer for the most part. I want to ride some trails with my tacoma. I currently have a 2011 dclb with 3" lift, and 33 all terrain. I want to discover some scenic place where we could camp with the family, but nothing too rough or heavy. No trails that need major modifications to the vehicules, for a first time.

Last year, My wife and I went to Vegas for job. At the end of our trip, we rent an suv for 1 day and drive by Valley of Fire. I would like to do it again, but this time reach some new places

I've seen a lot of posts about moab, ouray, red rock canyon, monument valley,...
I would like to hear your comments, suggestions, ratings. If you have valuable information like address, contacts information, best time of the year to visit, web site, url and documentations (books, pamphlet,...) that would be awesome. I'm looking at people that actually ride or have ridden the place they suggest. Maybe, there is already a post that lists all the cool place with all that informations? If it does, just link it here please.
