Carb cleaner might do it.. Spray some on a rag and try to lightly rub it out. Hold it to long it will eat the paint to bare metal (I learned the hard way with my old civic) if you're careful it will work

It's a 2001 CR250. I've had it since new, and this summer pulled it out of the moth balls it's been in for the last 8 years.

    Here's my $0.02 on this...

For something like that, use this stuff, believe me it'll remove it completely, leaving your paint looking like new again!

I know for a fact that O'Reilly's carries it, that is if they have it on their shelf (but I would call first, they may just need to order it for you). But they definitely can get it.

If you do in fact buy and use it, it's going to take a bit of elbow work just keep at it and it'll come off. I had to deal with something simular and used it (my neighbor is the one that told me about it).

Nice! My buddy used to have an 01 CR250, really fun bike to ride

I've had mine in "moth balls" for the last 2.5 years, finally got it out the other weekend and can't wait to get back out! Was saddle sore for a good week after though

Here's another tip (on something totally different).

Now this process worked for me so I know that it'll work for you. (heck maybe some of y'all already know about this?)

For those of us who have the chrome tip assembled on our Tacoma's tailpipe, when it get's all black and dirty after several years of driving around here's how you clean it to get it back to looking brand new and shiney. (this process also works for those of us who also have the rear chrome bumper too!)

To do this get the following items:

    1.) regular bottle of water
2.) some aluminum foil (that you can almost certainly find in your kitchen)
3.) paper towels and clean rags (old clean T-shirt should work)
4.) Turtle Wax Chrome Polish & Rust Remover (remember it has to be this specific type from Turtle Wax, nothing else)

The process (along with a bit of determination and patience of course):

Step A.) cut off a piece of aluminum foil (doesn't need to be a large piece)

Step B.) splash a bit of some water on the chrome assembly part of the tailpipe and some on the aluminum

Step C.) commence to start rubbing and scrubbing the chrome assembly with piece's of aluminum foil (again using vigorous elbow work for this part) the chrome section assembly only and continue to repeat this process (Step B.) after awhile continue to splash a bit of water over the chrome section and you'll start to see the residue being removed from the chrome section, continue to repeat until all the black dirt residue has been removed (or until you are satisfied with it).

Step D.) once done, with paper towels, clean and wipe off all the chrome assembly section completely until dry. Then add the Turtle Wax Chrome and Rust Remover to the entire section of the chrome assembly (follow the directions on the bottle). Then with clean rags wipe off the (again using vigorous elbow work) entire chrome assembly section and continue to do so until that chrome assembly tailpipe starts to shine like it was new.

    The End.

    Some Stuff...
I had this after my drive through canada otw to alaska.

    Best guess was road oil.

I used a fuck ton of scrubbing with micro fiber towels and goo gone, i tried magic erasers too but not for long as i was afraid it was eating clear coat. I had it across four doors and my bed.. sucked balls.

Make sure you wax your truck after removing it.

Mine came with mudflaps, which helps....

That having been said, a lot of people really like that Goo Gone, or whatever. Don't try rubbing compound as another suggested. That is the kind of dumb advice that puts you into a worse situation than you are already in. Be smart in sorting out the suggestions from random internet sources. Start 'mild' and low risk and work up from there.

Agree, I'd start with the lower stuff then move to polishing compound before using rubbing compound.
