Headed to the area in Sept. Are there any trails or fire roads worth a trip for a pretty much stock DCLB OR?

    Thanks in advance....

The trip over Mosquito Pass was pretty cool. Easy to handle for my stock DCSB OR. It gets pretty close to Mosquito Peak, which is over 13K ft, making for some good sights on a clear day.

Make your way up to Kingston Peak via St. Mary's, I think you would be fine with proper tire placement, its not too crazy. Its also an incredible hike down in to the lake from up there! You might still catch some skiers running the last strips of snow.

I second this. Absolutely beautiful area. I really enjoy the route from Central City to St. Mary's. I haven't done it in my truck, but my buddy was able to do it pretty easily in his slightly lifted 4Runner.

Mosquito Pass yeah, few spots to be careful on from what I remember. There are a lot of roads on the East of Leadville that have old mining structures.

Just south from Leadville is Salida and BV which have some fun areas. 4 Mile, Weston Pass, and check out Aspen Ridge when the trees are changing. Marshal Pass and Old Monarch pass are graded and have sweet views.

If you take I-70 west from Breck and get off at Vail pass, you can take Shrine Pass to Redcliff and the Proceed to on to the Leadville area from there. Not a real technical drive nor all that long (Some of the off shoots are more challenging though) Depending on what time in Sept./weather the aspen leaves may be changing which is always pretty in that area.

Just took this trip a few days ago and wanted to report back. Mosquito Pass was nothing short of awesome! I must say tho, there are some stretches that were intimidating. Some of the mogul's seemed rather big. I was amazed at what this truck can do. There were 2 or 3 times we had the suspension fully articulated with one of the rear tires completely up in the air and the roll/pitch maxed and the truck just wanted to keep going. This was on a stock suspension btw running AT3's. We are noobies to this so it may of seemed more intimidating to us than to others. I know the capabilities of the truck now so I must say I was very impressed.

Thanks again for the tips guys! Cant wait to come back with some sliders and do it again.

    The brussel sprouts are incredible.

Lots of good trails to get lost on east of Leadville and up mosquito pass. Hagerman road is a good place to get lost for a while too.

There's absolutely nothing here for you in Colorado. No trails, mountains, or fresh air. All gone. Sorry man I heard Nebraska is GREAT this time of the year though!

About 10 miles from Breckenridge is Hoosier Pass, there's a road there that is perfect for a nice drive.

Update #2- Took the Shrine Pass Rd to Redcliff. Pretty drive. There were some rough spots but never had to put it into 4x4. It was just a very cool trip through the trees along a stream. And please dont touch unknown objects. Former military exercise area. I need to look that up!

We are staying about 4 miles from Hoosier Pass. We are going to do the short hike up Hoosier before heading to Leadville tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the tips, they are all great ones!

I'm envious, 95 and humid here through the weekend. I bet the Aspens look incredible, wish I was there.
