What method do y'all recommend using to add diff fluid?

I need a new, clean, and fast way to add diff fluid through the fill plugs that are way up there. What do you guys use?

If I remember right I use different fluids for the front and rear dif. I'm thinking like an old shampoo bottle with a pump. Or just the pump portion with a hose clamped on the nozzle

 

They make a pump for filling differentials, I bought one and it works pretty good, filled front, rear and transfer case pretty quick.

 

They sell hand pumps that you can screw right on to the diff fluid bottle. .

I used a tube that screws onto the top of the bottle. I think it was a few bucks at advance.

 

After using both screw on hand pump and a tube hose clamped to the nozzle. I'll probably use the tube when possible as it's much quicker.

 

Plain old tube and some gravity.

this transfer pump. It pumps an entire quart in a few strokes. The hand soap type pumps mentioned don't fit on Red Line Oil bottles which is what I run.

 

I use a pump that attaches to the 5 gallon bucket I buy gear oil in .

In 40 years I am on my second pump .

It is by far the best way I have ever used

 

I do something similar to post #6. Long length of heater hose. Plastic tube on one end fastened down with hose clamp. That end goes into the Diff. Fish the hose up over the top of either the LR/RR tire. Connect a funnel to the other end of hose. Pour in gear oil. Been doing it this way for many years. Use whatever method you prefer.

 

Do it on a hot day in the summer and let the jugs sit out in the sun for a while to heat up. Filling diff fluid when it's cold takes forever.

 

Buy two pumps especially if getting the soap fill kind - having a backup keeps you from having to fill up your stuff by filling zip loc bags and cutting a hole in the corner like you're doing cake frosting

 

Just get a hand pump, the type that screw on the top of the bottle are easiest, a little messy swapping bottles but better then knocking over and spilling a bottle like with these.

I dont remember what the oil spec is but I used the same oil in both diffs and transfer case.

 

Get two pumps so if the first poopoo's the bed you won't have to add the rest with zip lock bags cake frosting style cutting the corner off and squeezing it in

 

What do you mean by the soap fill kind?

And yeah getting two isnt a bad idea to be on the safe side.

 

There's a pump style like the top of a bathroom hand soap dispenser that you'd have at home - it screws on the top of some bottles but no guarantee that it fits what you end up buying. It's what I had that stopped working half way through filling the transmission. Someone had a smart idea and put the bottles in a bucket of hot water to get the oil running more easily. I'll probably try that next time since the synthetic stuff I was using had the consistency of hair gel lol.

Ok that makes sense for describing it, yeah the different threads are annoying, but I have a old oil bottle my pump screws on and I just fill the diff fluid into that one and pump away. Personally never had a problem with it not pumping but I live in the south so that helps with keeping it flowing.

 

I was using red line synthetic - I live in SoCal man! Lol the only difference between you and me is about 60 percentage points of humidity lol - that stuff looked and smelled like old school orange hair gel - the kind with the bubbles in it. Maybe I'll use that next time instead lol.

I also use a bucket or two. One for the gear oil I put in the diffs and a separate one for the gear oil in the trans and transfer case.

After pumping a almost ten quarts of gear oil with the little pumper that goes on the bottles I said never again. There was a period of time when I was doing the fluid changes less than a year apart. It's so much faster and easier with the bucket pumpers.
