Hey guys I'm new and was thinking about getting new tires does anybody know good mud terrain tires preferably for freeway and off road use around $200, not too much off road just dirt sand and rocks. I haven't been able to find tires on Google so I thought I'd ask for your guys opinion

You should be searching for all-terrain tires, not mud tires. Big big difference.

Good luck getting GOOD muds or serious off-road tires for $200.

If you want a seriously good off-road tire that does well On-Road (and is quiet) look into the Cooper ST Maxx. Depending on size you'll be $250+ though.

I'm looking for something around 2-300 but I was reading that A/T tires don't do that well in mud, but I have no experience in off road stuff this is my first truck so I'm asking for all the advice I can

Where do you actually plan to do your off-roading?

A mud terrain tire would be something like Cooper STT PRO, Dick Cepek Extreme Country, just as examples. They'll have large knobby treads on them to throw mud with. Think tractor tires.

Something a little less aggressive will give you good usability in dirt, mud, sand, snow, without destroying your highway ride quality. (Cooper ST Maxx, Goodyear Duratracs, for example)

Less aggressive than that is your traditional "All Terrain" tire that does well on the highway but can still hold up on dirt roads. (Cooper AT3 for example)

I've had the Wardens, Guard Dogs, and Claws. I think the Guard Dogs have been my favorite.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
STT Pro if you need a mud tire. I have ST Maxx and they have been great so far.

As with anything, it's all about compromise. Cost, performance, durability, etc...

As others have found out, cheap tires (I mean "discount" tires) are generally hard to balance, wear quickly, and may not be very durable (especialy off road). So you'd be hard pressed to find good tires that are durable, good quality, cheap, wear well on the road, and are quiet. Given these specs, they simply don't exist.

Then, when you add in tread design, with meaty mud terrains vs. all terrains or pizza cutter street tires, tire selection, and what will perform "best" becomes even harder.

If you have a daily driver, I would honestly look at all terrains. I've been running bfg a/t's for like 12 years (not the same ones, lol) on my 2004 doublecab. I really like them. But for the majority of that time, it's been my daily driver, and has seen a lot of road trip miles towing a trailer on the highway. I've never had a problem with traction with these tires off road, but I'm also not much of a mud hunter, either.

Now that my taco isn't a daily driver anymore, I will likely be looking to a more agressive tread once the a/t's wear out since it will not see too many road miles aside from getting to the trail.

Back in the day I had a set of 32"x11.50r15's BFG M/t's on my old 4runner, and loved those tires, they were relatively loud, but nothing compared to the rednecks rollig their supper swampers down the highway, lol.

Locked front and rear, bumpers, sliders, cage etc..33" Cooper STT PRO's. Mild suspension lift.
Hankook DynaPro M/T. Great tire off road and just as good on the pavement. Easy to balance, very good ride and not too loud at all. I've run more than one set and they have been awesome. Btw, I wheel my junk heavily as well as drive back and forth to the trails.

    Like, so many.
How much off roading (and why type of off roading) do you anticipate doing?

If I go with mud tires.....it's going to be those same Firestone Destination MT or MT2 tires. Your 4Runner looks great !!! What size are those ?
