Just got the new Kings in all around. Rear is temporarily up on 1" blocks until I decide on a rear leaf / set up.

Right now shocks are limiting down travel by about an inch. It was my understanding the Kings in the OEM configuration were good for an additional inch or so of travel, and that was (and is) all the additional height I want back there. But when I had rear at full droop installing shocks, the shocks were about an inch too short to make it to the lower shock mount, and I had to jack up the rear axle about an inch to get the shock bolt in.

I believe I need to get some limiting straps on there so I don't damage a shock or shock mount.

Anyone running straps in the rear and have pics of attachment points? A "bolt up" solution using any factory holes would be great, as I do not want to (nor have the time before my next trip) to be having to weld on a strap attachment point.

Weld plates inside the frame, or fully box it, and weld the limit strap mounts to that. I installed a 10" plate directly above the axle.

Only thing I did wrong was put the mount up too high, so it's a bitch to adjust the clevis.

Hey OP, how’d this shake out for you? What did you end up doing? Contemplating a similar setup, wondering how necessary the limit straps are for DD

Haven't done anything with this yet unfortunately. Am just taking it a little slower off road so the shocks aren't violently bottoming out at full extension. At this point my plan is to have the extended shock mount eyes put on, but need to pull the shocks and send them in. Down South Motorsports offered that as an option during purchase as I recall.

Can't seem to find it now, but remember seeing pics on TW of someone who ordered them that way. Instead of the anodized blue shock mount / eye being about 2", it was more like 3" to 3.5" long.

Thanks for the update! Yeah DSM does do a modification like that, I’ve spoken with Micah about them and he’s very helpful. The standard Kings are spec’d to handle 1.5” of lift (per my leaf spring vendor Filthy Motor Sports who sells both) and they have top out spacers in the shocks, so I think your good with the current setup you have now without running limit straps. I’m considering some EXT King shocks which don’t have the spacer, which is why I ask about the straps. Good luck with your setup!
