    Hey guys,

Winter is coming. Looking to find some snow boots for my Taco - what are you guys running in the winter? Show off or let me know your set up, where you live and how its been performing for you.

I can't post an obligatory truck picture as I am on a work computer.

My K02's were amazing in snow. Curious to see how my STT Pro's will do.. I'm assuming not as good but we will see!

Michelin X-Ice on steelies. London (Snow country) Ontario. IMHO, stopping is more important than traction. With 4WD, lots of tires will work in getting through snow, but I worry more about stopping on ice and hard pack snow.

After hitting ice on a bridge deck and getting squirrely I went and bought winter tires, huge difference over an AT tire.
I'm running the Bridgestone Blizzack DMV2 on my stock TRD wheels. Save my good wheels from the salt and crud.
I look forward to driving in bad weather now, I really like the DMV2s

I live up North in Canada and have owned these tires for 4 seasons . They work excellent on snow covered lakes and ice covered roads . They are studded and I am thankfull I added the studs . Wife has the same tires on her Toyota Matrix but no studs . They still perform like new and show no signs of wear .
With this said , they are 4 years old and there may be a better product available now but I would purchase these again in a heartbeat .

This is my primary concern as well. 4WD for Traction. Snow tires are for stopping.

I have ran hankook ipike rw11 and cooper discoverer m+s, both studded. I preferred the grip of the coopers a little bit more. From my experience, most people who naysay snow tires have never owned a set themselves.

The OP didn't specify but based on his location from his info (Toronto) he CAN'T run studded tires. They are illegal in his area.

Why are studded tires illegal some places? Trash the roads or something?

I just run my BFG KO's. It's a 4wd truck and I've been driving in snow for a long damn time so I know how to do it. My wife got Blizzaks when she had a 2wd car, but now that she's in a 4wd there's no need.

However, I liked the Blizzaks and would buy them again.

I don't make the laws so like you I can only speculate. I would assume they would damage the roads more quickly plus the added traffic all wearing studs. So the south gets salt and where it is too cold for salt to work they are allowed studs.

@Kirk5370 thanks for starting this thread. I've started plowing and am looking for snow tires as well. Typically I am running 285 General Grabber AT2's and although they've been awesome in snow (light or deep) (and I'm on my second set), I'm gonna run winter/snows this year on old 4runner 17's.

I have the x ice on my Jetta and my parents have it on their forester.
I have the nokian hakkapelitia R2s. Loved them last winter. Worked great for toronto winters and trips up north to Minden area

Pretty much, plus in most of the places they are illegal are the places that are generally populated more and also have more of a road maintenance sector. In toronto we obviously have plows, but in smaller towns like Minden (closest to Toronto where you can run studs to the north) they don't plow as much. As well its often colder.

Temps do likely have something to do with it, but not the only thing as studs are illegal here in Toronto but it can still get cold enough that they don't use salt anymore and use some sort of liquid instead.
