hi guys! Hoping someone can help me out here. At least a month ago I got some wax (called Liquid Glass) on the matte black hood decal just like the one in the picture below. I thought I had wiped it all off and was done with it. Now after many washes, you can tell where the wax got onto the decal, its kind of a grayish/chalky type area on the decal. I had read that a pink school eraser would remove the old dried wax stains but that has just not worked. Any suggestions of products and methods to get this decal cleaned and back to the matte black it's supposed to be?

    Thanks,
    D.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
I found this on another site. Might give it a try.
"Dawn dish detergent liquid on a wet sponge will remove the waxy residue on the stipe and also its good for removing wax on plastic trim"

This would be my first go-to. Should be gentle enough not to negatively impact the vinyl. It may take a few applications. Spray, gently agitate/wipe with a microfiber towel. Repeat. You may even use a super soft toothbrush. Don’t scrub. Just very gently agitate. Sometimes gentle and for more time is better than hard and fast. My main concern would be doing something to the vinyl in that one spot, thereby changing the appearance from the rest of the vinyl. I bet the McKee’s will work with 2-3 applications. This may be one of those things where you aim for improvement rather than scrub so hard that you have a permanent defect in the vinyl. At that point, you’ll regret your effort.

What’s your method? Just like erasing pencil on paper? I’d be afraid of marking up the vinyl?? I wouldn’t be afraid on plastic trim. In fact, I need to get some for that purpose. But on black vinyl right in the middle of the hood... I’d be nervous! No?

I just use them on plastic. OP said he used a pink eraser and it did not work you might ask him how he used the pink eraser on his vinyl. I do know the white erasers I posted the link to do get white stains off black body molding. The textured black plastic takes some rubbing but it will come off.

Well, somehow, the Toyota Gods looked down today and said, hey let's give this guy a break. Took the truck in for the toyota care visit and they asked if I wanted it washed. Sure I said, why not and told them I got wax on that decal if they have a way to get it off without damaging the decal. When I got the truck back, no wax or marks on the decal now at all, looks brand new.

Harpo... I did wind up ordering a bottle of Duragloss car wash soap. That should get me thru the winter.
