My 2014 Tacoma double cab when I use the 4wd during a snow storm, I cant get the front diff to disengage properly when I put it back in 2wd ,,, the 4x4 light goes off only the back wheels spin, but the front end shimmy's so bad at 35-40 mph ,, I have to put it back in 4wd then to 2wd 25-30 times driving forward and backwards before the shimmy stops (disengaging the front diff),,, then its fine anyone else ever have this problem???

Maybe your actuator is going out. I think jberry took his apart recently and the fix was pretty easy versus the price of getting a new one.

Bilstein 5100's w/ Eibach coil overs in front (set at 3" of lift). Front diff drop kit. Extended Bilstein 5100's in the rear. Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. All Pro Apex front bumper (rattle canned Rustoleum primer + flat black). Plasti-dipped emblems. Mud flaps removed.
Idk, I'm old school but I always engage/ disengage at a complete stop with the wheels straight, roll back a bit and then go forward. never had any issues with mine.

I've had this problem with the truck since I bought it new, it works fine in the summer when I pull my boat in or out, just gets half engaged in the winter .Every time I bring it to the dealer they say nothings wrong with it cause they mess with it in a warm shop and it starts working normal.

Can you describe this shimmy? Even when I drive in 4WD at 35-40 mph, even if i'm on straight pavement, I don't get any shimmy. If your diff is engaged there's still an open diff in there. Shouldn't be any binding at all with the T case disengaged. This doesn't really sound like a 4WD differential engagement problem to me. Something doesn't sound right. Is your truck stock?

I just finished replacing BOTH my front ADD actuator and the transfer case actuator motors. The front ADD is super easy to swap, or at least remove and inspect it.

The most common issues worry the front ADD is the power poles on the motor lose connection, however mine had a partially broken drive gear. If you want more info just let me know- here's my ADD when I opened it up. See the little gear?

you can engage or disengage 4HI (to and from 2HI) at up to 60mph. OP try it at speed on a straight section of road. Flip the switch as you roll off the throttle and it will usually go right in and out.

I don't think I inspected the inside of the tcase actuator. I was able to buy a used tcase actuator from a yard, and just swapped them out.
