I live in the RTP area and just switched over to T-Mobile, from Verizon; which I had for several years, however they were going to stop supporting my wife's phone, (with an email that wen to spam , of course) and they had been increasing my month-to-month price for a while.
I have been on TMo for almost 2 monthly cycles now and so far so good, much better discounts and customer service is far superior than VZW, but the rural coverage is leaving something to be desired. Has anyone else had similar experiences with them???

Haven't used them since 2007 or so. Back around 2002 I lived in southern Oregon for college, and the only cell service you could get was Sprint or US Cellular. However, TMo had an interesting thing where they didn't own any of their own towers (or something like that), but you were allowed to use towers compatible with TMo. As a result, TMo gave me the best coverage I've ever had - I used US Cellular towers at college, then whenever I'd travel, the phone would auto switch to AT&T. Sadly, they don't do that anymore, and I have an incredibly good AT&T plan.

For current days, it's like this:
TMo if you are in town and cheap
    AT&T for general use
VZW if you have a company, are always out in the sticks, if AT&T isn't working, or you like to spend money
Sprint if you hate yourself, or you want to have coverage in the one place where NO ONE else bothers to cover. I was with Search & Rescue, and it typically went that the one guy on Sprint had terrible service except when AT&T and VZW had no service. You may have different experiences on the east coast.

If you are already with TMo, you may look into an MVNO like FreedomPop or similar (FreedomPop uses Sprint, but there's others on T-Mobile).

yeah, they are currently in the process of rolling out 600mhz spectrum, to penetrate through buildings and cover distances (rural areas), however there is only 1 NEW phone LG V30 that has the capability of using that LTE band, (71), and not too many other manufacturers coming out with phones that do.

I did hear that U.S. Cellular was being a pain about letting TMo customers roam on their towers even though they technically can.

I will have to look at some of those MVNO's and maybe others.. I did hear that MetroPCS and Cricket were worth while.

    Thanks.

I've used Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon for personal and company use. (and by company use I mean I was the one that got called when the user didn't like something. I got to call the cell phone company to figure it out.) Bottom line they all suck so pick one, it really doesn't matter all that much.

    My awards go like this:
    Customer service
Worst customer service - Hands down without a doubt T-Mobile.
Best corporate customer service - AT&T

Best and worst here is like comparing a slightly used port-a-potty vs one in the bad part of town after sitting for a month in the summer sun. They both stink to high hell, only one is better than the other.

    Coverage
Worst - this is a tie between Sprint and T-mobile. They sort of, mostly work in cities. Rural towns and back roads, forget about it.
    Pretty good - AT&T
    Best by far - Verizon

I've spent a fair amount of time traveling around the entire United States comparing the actual, usable coverage, not the BS in the sales people spew. (Why you ask did I travel around with a bunch of cell phones comparing coverage? I worked for a big company with a sales force of whiney babies. Rather than meeting their sales goals they would try to blame their technology. My computer broke, my cell phone doesn't have coverage, my battery died, etc, etc, etc. Funny thing was there were a few reps that kicked ass, but they did strange things like meeting with potential new clients, and calling existing clients, but I don't judge.)
