    Had two sightings of black bears when backpacking Kings Canyons Rae lakes loop. One had already tore through a tent and was scavenging. We eventually holler and scared it away. Second one was just walking the trail with us, albeit much slower. He led us for what it seemed like hours. Then eventually just jumped off the trail and ran down hill.

    No reason to ever shoot a bear. They'll bolt before they attack. Only reason I carry is to protect myself from humans.
