    Hello fellow Tacoma owners,

This has probably been addressed in the past, but I can't seem to good answer (even from my local Toyota dealership). When it rains, and my sunroof is closed, I can see water dripping down into the plastic tray below. Toyota said that is by design, but I've never owned a vehicle where I can see water dripping in. I know a lot of cars have a runoff through the door but this doesn't seem normal to me. It currently doesn't end up in the cabin but it just seems weird. I could see if it was a drop or 2 but a decent amount of water pools up in the plastic catch plate. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

not normal, i go through a high pressure touchless car wash on occasion and even then i have only seen water once and it was not enough to form a droplet

Maybe the drain holes are plugged a bit?

The dealership checked that and said they were fine. They also "water tested" it for a few hours and said it did not leak. Mind you, every time it rains (even a misty rain) it starts dripping. I took a video for them to see and they still claim that it is normal.

mine doesn't leak at all. Not in heavy rains or in any carwash.
Maybe it needs to be recalibrated. From closed position, press the vent open button. when it stops, press and hold the button again for about 10 seconds. The sunroof should go through a cycle where it opens and closes. Try that. Maybe it needs to close just a bit more.

Thank you, I will try that. When I bought the vehicle 4 months ago the sunroof was never programmed so when I tried to open it it would continue to try to open and make a grinding noise. Toyota said "I should of programmed it when I got home" but maybe that did some damage to the seal. I will def try to re-calibrate when I get home to see if that helps it out. We have rain in the forecast so I should get an answer pretty quick.

    Thanks!

The dealer is supposed to calibrate the sunroof as part of the sale. You pay a prep fee and thats part of the fee.
My sunroof wouldn't close automatically from a vent position. So I recalibrated it last week. Now it works like a charm. Hopefully this helps you too.

there's another thread on this, he saw the same thing, dripping into
the lip, dealership told him the same thing. It's rained like crazy here
the last few months and I've never ( I check every time it rains ) seen a single drip.

Mine drips as you describe. If you look back between the headliner and back seal on the sunroof you can see it dripping into a plastic tray that drains it down the B pillar. I saw in another thread here that said this is by design. I was more than a little concerned when I first saw it. Never seen a drop of water in the cab.
    Hopefully this video works... https://photos.app.goo.gl/BS9VB43QBiMopsTp1

OK, so that is EXACTLY what mine is doing. I feel like this isn't normal and it's something Toyota is brushing off.

That's perfectly normal. The outer seal is designed to hold water back, not completely seal. The inner channel has holes that run through the pillars and drain the water. As an example, close the sunroof completely and from the outside push lightly on the front or back of the sunroof and you'll notice it moves around, floats so to speak. As long as you don't get wet it's doing its job.

No drips on mine, it was also already programmed at the dealer before I brought it home.

There's just no way it can be "by design" if we are not all seeing it.

No drips here---also haven't taken it through an automatic wash so unsure if it would happen with pressure but no drips in rain storms

I'd clean the seals and then put some 303 aerospace on them. Clean the seal and the metal it presses against.

I get the drips. Odd to see for sure but waters never gotten inside anywhere. I think I'll try the re-calibration method above just to see if it works

It really is normal. That's what that tray is for. The tubes takes the water away. If the roof was completely sealed against water you wouldn't be able to open it
