I have a 2015 sport long bed. I have been looking at the available covers. Nothing has really excited me enough to make a purchase, price or style wise.

I am wondering has anyone attempted to make their own.

My first though is out of wooden panel that would slide in the bed channels. I do not want to remove the channels or drill holes in the bed. The panels my 3 or 4 sections would slide in the channel when tail gate is open and will not come out when the tailgate is locked.
I am adding a lock to the tailgate.

My second thought it having the panels 3d printed. I can do the CAD design I would just need to find a place to print it large in abs plastic or other material.
    Any thoughts?

You could look in to some "wrapping" (like on cars, vans etc.) so you could create any design and then change or replace as needed

I made a tonneau of sorts out of wood. I needed it for camping and use it 2-3 times a year. $65-70ish.

I don't have pics of the finished item, but I used 2x4 brackets to attach to the rails, then used T handles to attach the cover to the brackets. I also put a few large eye hooks underneath to bungy it to the truck just in case something fails.

I sprayed it with bed liner so it's black. Folds up at the hinge area.

Also, this didn't provide enough room for 4 guys gear with guns and such, so I'm planning to make a soft topper here in a week or two... we'll see how that works out... :\

Thank you sureshot for sharing your project, nice work!

Did you use T slot nuts to attache to the bed rail?

I would like to see how you change it to a soft top.

I actually found something at lowes that is used for electrical installation that has a spring on it... it has a threaded hole in the middle and that's what I used. I did that before I found out about the T nuts that would fit our rails.

I won't be changing it into a soft top... that's going to be from scratch... hopefully working on it this weekend.
