That I had to get it shipped from Cali as the midwest is full of rust buckets! Love it so far, finding certain accessories/armor can be a bit harder.

My clock quit working years ago, so the poor placement never bothered me. I fixed the cup holders being too big by stealing one of the rubber inserts that go in the cup holders in my wife's 2016 4-runner.
The one thing I don't care for is the lack of heated mirrors. Anyone know if there are aftermarket ones available?

It's underpowered and I HATE the oil filter position. Also, how the fuck do you get those clips out of the wheel well protective flap without breaking them to gain access to to the filter? :annoyed:

This is the main reason you still have a tail gate :)

As far as my truck is concerned I can't find a single thing I don't like. Anything I did not like I already fixed. OK, maybe one thing I don't like now is that it has EVAP system - after I moved to Poland I don't need it, but it has to be there for the truck to run without throwing ECL (EVAP system is not required in Poland).

I absolutely hate the door panels. 1) they rattle non stop. 2) if I lean my knee agains it, it squeaks like crazy 3) they have absolutely no sound deadening quality to them.

If my truck engine is off, the windows are up and I have the radio on, the sound outside the truck is almost exactly the same with the doors closed as it is with them open....that is no shit. Here is proof:

Sorry, I can't figure out how to upload a video. Mine from my phone are ".3gp" and I can't figure out how to change the type to one that is accepted by TW. So guess you will have to take my word for it

Mine has zero rattles and I've done nothing special. I honestly hate how these trucks even in good condition are hard to sell in the Dakotas. It seems like people here will drag their balls through miles of broken glass, sticker bushes to look at a Grand Am with the front bumper cover torn off and pay top dollar for it

Dude, RAAM Audio sound deadening is the answer to your prayers. It's a bit of a pain to take everything apart to install it, but it makes a huge difference especially in the doors.

X2 wind noise and no sound deadening. But my door panels are tight and quiet.
I've been adding sound deadening slowly. Front doors are done. Huge differance.
But the wind noise around mirrors irrates me.

all these comments about other members having quiet doors has me thinking I need to remove mine again to see if I can figure out why the heck mine rattle but more importantly squeak any time my leg touches the door.....maybe I can eliminate the issue and gain some sanity back

I don't quite understand the oil filter complaints. I just recently bought my '03 Tacoma (V6 4x4) and while changing the filter looked difficult at first, it turned out to be really easy. From above the engine, I just reached under the alternator with my right hand and put one of these on top of the filter with a socket wrench attached:
    http://www.autozone.com/shop-and-ga.../oem-oil-filter-a-cap-style-wrench/153157_0_0

Then I screwed in the new one by hand. No need to remove the skid plate.

The only thing I don't like about my first gen is that it doesn't have the interior space of a Ford F-350 Super Duty. Nor the load capacity. There are no rattles, my clock has always worked and it hasn't required anything except 3 batteries, one brake job and a water pump most all under warranty since my dad bought it new. I bought my 2004 4X4 RC from my dad at 119,000 miles and it has required almost no maintenance so far at 165,000+ miles. All I have done so far is replace the battery 3 weeks ago and normal fluid changes. I did replace the belts last summer but they didn't need it. I just wanted to be on the safe side considering where I live. It also averages around 20mpg no matter what I do year around which a Ford Super Duty never will and the Super Duty wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as maintenance free.

I did replace all the suspension about a year and a half ago but we all know the story when it comes to Taco suspensions. They suck right off the showroom floor and this one had around 125,000 miles on it before I did that with OME all around and Deaver J-59's in the rear. Jap electronics are pretty much bulletproof and last "almost" forever which is one of the reasons these Taco's are so reliable and require so little maintenance. Then there is the "rubber" all of the various vacuum hoses are made of. It's real good stuff. All manufacturers are using this type of rubber these days though.

When they designed and built the 1st gens they cut corners where they could be cut and put the quality where it was really necessary which is why they cut in the suspension department and the sound deadening compartment but made the engines and drive train stone reliable. My 1st gen could be quieter but it really isn't something I notice.

I bought my '99 Prerunner in 2006 with 73,000 miles on it. My gripes are..

-Interior driver's side door handle latch frame cracked a years ago, replaced it, now the new one is showing signs of breaking in the same spot.
-Plastic cover things on the sides of both seats went to shit with previous owner.
-At this point the drivers side seat is ruined. Left side is pretty much collapsed/ crushed. (251,xxx miles)
-Clock never stayed on since I bought it, used to be able to tap it and it would come in and out, now it's just dead I think.

All those are pretty trivial, but this thing has been in the shop plenty for mechanical issues since I bought it for many different reasons. I guess it's to be expected once vehicles get over 100k, but I bought a tacoma in the first place because of how reliable everyone said they were.

Off the top of my head while I'm sitting here drinking...

    -Shocks/struts
    -Tie rod ends
    -Alternator
    -Radiator
    -Spark plugs/wiring
    -Mass airflow sensor
    -Airbox
    -Steering rack
    -Shift solenoid
    -Starter
-Ignition (now uses one key to open the doors an another to start)
    -TPS sensor

Probably some other stuff in there, but I gotta laugh when people say "all I do is put gas in it and change the oil every 3k-5k miles". hahahaha

@Tanmann sounds to me like the PO didn’t take very good care of the truck. However, for a truck with 250k+ none of that stuff is surprising. Go buy a new truck and see if it costs more than a couple repairs..most of which could be done in a driveway..

Anyone want to buy one of these crappy clocks everyone keeps complaining about? I switched mine out for a paranoid fab switch plate so now instead of a clock I get to turn things on

I'm getting ready to replace mine as well. Such a poor place to put it. Can't see it behind the steering wheel.
