18 lift

Reading on tundra forum where the 18 models they say at.this time cannot lift. Something to do with issues with all the new safety seance stuff. I'm waiting on 18 tacoma but plan on lift from day it arrives. If it also has same problem that sucks. Anyone heard this

Not heard it on the Toyota, but it's a problem on particular Ford models with RSC, (Roll Stability Control). Understanding the basic's of how this works it'll be a problem for all vehicles that have similar systems since all manufactures tend to use the same basic technology algorithms. There are ways round it, but the best option would be to re-calibrate it, which no one seems to be able to do, and haven't since it's introduction. But if Ford put it on the F series, there would be a lot more motivation for people to circumvent it. But again, it really depends a lot on the vehicle RSC configuration and how much lift you introduce.

don't know how to do a link but go to Tundra talk forum and under General info it says 18 Tundra on one of the recent post and he says dealer says you cannot lift the 18s there is issues

 

If that is the case, just get a 17?

I'm sure that a lift might mess up the calibration on some of those things and you'll have weird warning lights a flashing.

What is unknown is if it throws you into 'limp' mode or something silly.

Do we know if it's standard, optional or model specific?

'Can't lift' seems a bit harsh. Like you can't have non TPMS wheels now.

Can't lift w/o confusing the gadgetry, maybe.

the only system that would give any issues is pre-collision, and all the models with pre-collision detection also have a button to disable it.
i've recalibrated many vehicles with it, and thats all that would be needed if a vehicle is lifted enough to mess with it.
aim the radar detector down a tad and recalibrate the ecu, takes about 20 minutes...but really a 3" lift shouldnt have much effect on a radar detector trying to see objects 50' ahead.. most cars are taller than 36".
pedestrian detection works off the camera in the windshield, so as long as you dont go full bro-lift, it should be fine.

 

Reading the Tell Me More sections of the Toyota Safety Sense web page. It seems that the camera system above the rear view mirror works in concert with the front-grille-mounted radar. These sensors are attached to the headlights, steering, throttle and brakes. Pretty much the ECU.

What happens when the system cannot gauge the distances or the camera angles are off?
Is the ECU smart enough to see it's wrong or will it just run in what it can see?
Can physically moving the camera to correct angles help?
What happens if a bug hits the windshield by the camera?
How high can we go before the radar and cameras are out of alignment?
Windshield changes???

well if you tow a boat or carry a load or people or cargo in the bed, the rear of the truck will squat and will the change the angle of sensors. I do not think it will make a difference with regards to safety sense.

 

Sound theory. I love my tech. I was looking at a 1 to 1.5 in lift. It is probably in that range for the trailer angles.
