I was actually shopping for a Tacoma when I bought my Rubicon a couple of years ago. I was a little put off by the price of even older used Tacomas.
Well, the Rubicon was a pain from the start. I got to drive it for about six months before it got problems that made it undriveable, so last Friday, I traded it for a 2017 TRD OffRoad in Quicksand.
I am still learning it and getting used to it, but I do believe I will be happy with this truck.

@QuicksandChili Congrats on your purchase! I sympathize with you. I looked to purchase a used Tacoma, but the prices were just as high as a new Tacoma. High resale value is one of the benefits of owning a Tacoma. Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I am happy to be here learning about my Tacoma. It seems that some of the mods yall did to the first '16s to come out were incorporated into the '17s. I've been reading up through the third gen "what I did to my Tacoma today" thread and things like tying the electric tailgate lock to the cabin locks, the led bed lights and one or two other things that I can't remember make me think this. IDK?

My Jeep that I traded in on the Tacoma was an '06 Wrangler Rubicon with a Banks Turbo. Red with a 2 inch spacer lift. I had lots of little issues with it that I was able to fix, till I got an exhaust leak at the head. Mechanic told me the Banks header warped, so I ordered a header from Speed Daddy on Ebay. The Banks header was $600 and I think the SpeedDaddy was $240. Beautiful header, but the mechanic said one of the header loops came up about a quarter inch too high, preventing the intake from setting down. I ordered a stock manifold because I knew it would fit and I was short on funds. I think the cast iron manifold was around $40? Well, when I pick the truck up, it has a lifter tick and if I gave it more than a little throttle the boost gauge would rap all the way around past 60 psi. I thought I would get around to working on it and time slipped away so I traded it.

I will do a few things to my truck soon, I hope. Floor mats would be first. It rained yesterday and today at work, and the white rock parking lot is migrating into my drivers footwell. I may paint parts of the Heritage grill or look for a different one. Still checking out what yall have done. I'm thinking about some of the TRD PRO parts even though they are not needed for the way I drive. If I ever get to Hidden Falls I could justify the skid plate. I like the way the intake on the PRO looks. That's it.
