When I did my BRZ it was pretty similar as far as it being an anemic 4 cylinder. Between 3k-4k rpm, that car made about 100 ft-lbs. It was horrendous. You HAD to shift down from 6th to 4th, maybe 3rd to really get a good pull on the highway to pass anyone. I'm sure with the a tune of the way the VVTi timing and duration adjusts, fueling and spark adjusts, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a jump of 10 horsepower and maybe 12-15 ftlbs at the crank. Any little bit helps! Expecting anything more than about 10hp is just wishful thinking

    Too few to list.
I have a 2.7 as well and it's slow but it's adequate for the intended use. I'm just saying a tune for this motor would probably not yield significant numbers.

Just for comparison's sake, my 2015 Mustang GT dynoed at 383 WHP and 362 TQ stock, with just a tune = 405 WHP, 387 TQ. That's a 5-7% gain. Was it worth the $450, yes but had big numbers to begin with.

It would be interesting what tune can do for the 2.7 but I wouldn't expect anymore than a 5% increase.

159hp/180tq with a drive train loss of 20-35% on 4x4 doesn't leave is with much.

Mine is currently stock and will do LCE headers and maybe eletric fan and call it a day.

Sigh, if rev hang was the only problem, that would work..

The 2.7 in the Highlander has a variable length intake manifold at a certain rpm if opens up a shorter path for air to travel so it has more top end power

It's also a completely different (aluminum) block.

My only performance plans are gears and an electric fan. I want a better alternator though.

    Running larger tires?
    I don't remember what gear ratio 2nd gen's 4cyl are. 4:10?
I only plan on running 265/75 so I'm sticking with stock 4:30.
255/85's might look nice but defeats the purpose of going 4cyl.

    Prerunners get a 4.10. Mine is a 3.58 I believe, (5-lug auto) running 31.6" tires. She struggles.

Because it decreases mpg just as you stated. Main reason I got a 4cyl is for better mpg as it's my daily driver. I used to get about 390+ with 17 gallons or so but after switching to 265/70 that is now down to about 350ish. Not a big loss but a loss nonetheless.

I will be switching to 255/85's on my 4.0 as I don't care about mpg with that one.

So I was looking through the 3.5 tuning thread and noticed the OV Tune uses the same handheld that I had for my BRZ, its a really nice piece of equipment. The layout is nice, fit and finish. Cant wait to see whats in store for the 2.7.

I feel like a crachhead waiting for these updates haha

I'm planning on slightly over gearing mine with a 4.30. MPG is not a major concern of mine. Right now merging onto the interstate can be tricky, so I really need some acceleration.
