I got a lot of inspiration on this site from other trailer builds and new i wanted on this bandwagon, i knew a RTT was in my future so i purchased a cheap trailer on Craigslist to try it out.

After one camping trip i had decided to build the trailer i wanted so i began designing it. I used Sketch up to figure out the basic dimensions then just started cutting and welding.

The chassis took shape quickly, the most difficult part was cutting the square holes in the 2x3 for the tongue to run the full length of the trailer.

Progress is made as parts become available.

I used the factory springs from the truck and spring hanger parts from trail-gear.

There has been a bit of undocumented progress but you can see the trailer got new rubber and some nice fenders.

Piece by piece things are finding a home as the fab continues.

Getting hooked to the truck for the first time.

    IMG_2395.jpg

Ready for its first test drive. It tracked perfectly and was very easy to control in reverse.

    IMG_2440.jpg

Cardboard fenders didn't hold up too well so i had to make some from steel.

All the assemblies bolt together, it takes a little more metal and time but it could be beneficial in the future for design changes or repairs.

Cutting and framing the door openings is time consuming bit i think it will turn out well when the door is flush and sealed with a rubber bulb seal.

Laying out the tail light box. this will house 4" round led stop and reverse lights as well as support the fender.

Looks good, we finished mine up a few months ago and I really had a blast building this with my friends. I never thought about using my old leaf springs, great idea and those brakes make a huge difference. Also I spy a 1st gen 4Runner and possibly another blue one out of frame in one of the pics. Wouldn't be mad if you posted a pic or 12.

Thanks TACORIDER The trailer is a lot of fun to build, do you have a picture of your trailer?
