Courtesy Light Mounting

    Im looking at mounting these lights here close to where the factory steps bolted on.

    The factory courtesy lights have you drill a hole through the pinch weld but Im not keen on that.

    Should / Can I use a self tapping screw to mount them where they are pictured?
    Or should I look at making a mounting plate to use the step bolt holes?
    Or should I make a mounting plate to mount them to the pinch weld?
    Or should I make a mounting plate and weld it to the spot it is pictured?

    The self tapping screw would be easiest but I don't know the implications.
