Greetings everybody! I had new bushings installed in the transfer case of my 98 Tacoma, with 5 speed manual transmission, and manual J shifter. I didn't notice when I picked it up from the shop that the 4wd indicator light wasn't working. It shifts in and out of 2/4wd just fine.

Is there a simple way to troubleshoot/repair the indicator light?

    Thanks in advance!!

I appreciate it guys. Evidently I've got bigger problems. Just tried climbing a couple of hills on the back 40 and it appears that the 4wd isn't engaging.

I don't understand. I'll be making a other topic on this one.

You can simply rename this one and keep it going. What bushings did you have replaced? The actually poly bushings on the mount for the front diff? Could it be a vacuum line or electrical connector got unplugged?

The bushings in the top of the transfer case, where the shifter goes down into the case.

I'm not sure my setup has any vacuum lines connected to the 4wd system.

If you have manual hubs, no vac lines. IF auto hubs, you'll have vac lines.

I thought for some reason we were talking about the diff. Whoops.

ANYWAYS, pull the shifter and confirm it is properly seated in the cup/tcase. That would be my first bet. Did you or a shop do the work?

I dropped it off at a local transmission shop. The owner didn't charge me, told me to "try it out for a few days" and give him a call.
