So, when I bought my truck, the trailer harness was broken off. I got a Hopkins 7 pin to replace it. I matched up the colors and spliced it in, but when I hooked it up to the trailer today none of the lights work.

Here are the wires I've figured out:

    White- ground
    Red- left turn
    Brown- right turn
    Green- taillights

I've still got yellow black and blue that don't seem to control anything. I assume one for trailer brake and one for backup light. I put it in reverse and can find any for backup lights.

Anyone have a wiring diagram for the harness, and any thoughts why I can't get backup lights to work?

Here is the old quick connect harness and the new trailer plug.

Apparently Toyota does different colors. I found all of those diagrams online, but they do not match up with my truck

@Fike As per the Tacoma 2012 factory prints"

    White- ground
    Red- left turn
    Brown- right turn
    Green- taillights
    Yellow = Backup Lights
    Lavender (blue) = Brake Lights
Black = Comes from the Battery Charge Relay

Great, I think that's all I needed was those last 3.

Anybody have troubleshooting tips as to why I am not getting anything with backup lights. I ran a multimeter to white and yellow with the truck in reverse and got nothing

I also bought a truck with the light harness missing. It is my understanding that there is some sort of special ballast or what have you, in between the factory female plug, which is empty, and the 7 pin. Would be interesting to see if yours works without it. Would save me a lot of frustration and time! How is it going so far? Is it just the backup lights that are not functioning? Thanks!

I wired mine up and it's working great. I wired the pigtail and the new plug that are in my earlier picture according to the color codes Jimmy posted earlier.

I also had a few blown fuses from when the plug got knocked off to get everything working. Now it is working great and my backup lights are awesome
