Looking to add a winch to my 2015 DCSB and came across a Keeper Winch (http://www.keeperproducts.com/product/details/KV85072) for $399 Cad at a local store. I can't seem to find many reviews online or much about the brand itself.

Wondering if anyone has had any experience using one of these or any other Keeper winches. Something to avoid, or something you would recommend.

The winch will not be used excessively, only the odd time when necessary, and most likely removed from the truck in the winter months

I've never heard of Keeper Winch. If I couldn't find info on-line, I would be very cautious...

x2 on never hearing about them. If you are looking for super dirt cheap look at Harbor Freight which while not the best winch still gets good reviews.

They sell the Keeper's on Amazon. There are some comprehensive reviews there.

Under things to avoid: cheap winches. Avoid: the $5 shackles found at Home Depot or the local HW store.

When you're out in the middle of nowhere, you will be glad you went with quality gear and didn't cheap out to save money.

If you're going to buy a winch, buy a good one. There are plenty of good ways to get unstuck without a winch. Spend money on those if you can't justify a good winch.

If you see yourself getting stuck a lot, another good option are maxtrax. Sometimes, maxtrax are a better option than winching.

I've had two Smittybilt winches, one on a 1973 Jeep CJ-5 which I used quite a bit, and a Smittybilt X2O on my current Tacoma, that I've recovered one vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) with. I've never had any trouble with them and they come with a 5 year warranty, and the X2O is guaranteed waterproof.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll be saving up for and spend the extra money on a Warn
