Did both solo over the last month and I agree Gold is tougher....I bang my shit up on that one way more than on MJT. MJT is sketchier as far as being remote goes....that's a long ass hike to have to make if something bad goes down.

The only section I think is tough is that first ledge at MJT. Gold mountains first 3 section ledge is definitely similar to it but quite a bit more daunting. I want to run MJT again this year and check it out again. I remember Lockwood(?) trail before MJT being a great trail too.

Yeah Lockwood is technically the trail that obstacle is on (the 'gatekeeper' right after you enter the Lockwood gate). MJT technically begins after that campground where we all took our poser shots that you and I have as our avatars lol. I'd be down to run it again as a group soon...they close MJT sometime in the near future for the winter months

I'd be down to do a camping trip or something there and run it up and down. It's a bit of a trek for a day trip for me.

Ditto, that camp ground at the bottom where MJT starts would be a good spot for a group. There's even a fire pit and table there. It's a 1st come 1st serve spot though but there's plenty of other areas around there to set up camp too.

Definitely in for this. Any idea when the shut down is? My October is pretty booked up. I could probably do an early November trip. I'll be in North Carolina the 14-19

Find some long bolts that are the same thread as the 3rd and cut the head off to use like dowels. I've put many a 3rd member in that way and they are on tractors. Jack prybar and dowels is all you need.
