    Hi,

I have a grinding sound coming from my front drivers wheel.
I jacekd it up and spun the wheel and took a video (links below).

Do you think this is a bad bearing or a dragging brake pad?
How can I be sure what it is?
Is it dangerous to drive on?

My steering wheel shakes when braking at about 60mph. I assume this is due to warped rotors. Could it be related to the grinding noise?

Money is tight, so I want to be sure before purchasing these parts.
I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner (TRD Sport) with 60k miles and slightly larger tires on stock 17" rims.

No Grinding Sound - Passenger Side Front Wheel

    Thanks!

    Yup wheel bearing

The shaking of the steering wheel while braking is probably bad rotors as well. You may have a few things going on.

Don’t feel bad, my wheel bearing went bad at 25k and now I probably have another bad wheel bearing at 56k. I have a 2010 with slightly bigger tires too ( I think we have the same exact truck)

    Thanks for the input guys!

Is there anything I should do just to be SURE this is a bad bearing - or is it undoubtedly a bad bearing based on the video?

How important is it to replace both front bearings if only one is giving me trouble?

    Will this do the trick?

Can you point me to a DIY for the replacement?
I've changed my brake pads / rotors (on other cars) before. Is this of similar difficulty or harder?

    Thanks!

I just replaced mine last night. I have a 2010 PreRunner as well. It was relatively easy... if you have done pads and rotors you can do the bearings. I bought mine from Marion Bumper 2 Bumper. They are more expensive than the Chinese ones you get at Auto Zone but are wicked high quality (with Koyo bearings). It was $550 for both front hub/bearing assemblies. It took about three weeks to get them (Florida was under water most of those three weeks so I can't knock em for the delay) WWW.MarionBumper2Bumper.com

My truck drives like brand new after installing them... if you are going to do the job... do it with high quality parts!

I used this youtube video and it worked great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX-smNldsLc

Job took me about 1.5 hours per side including installing new brake pads and rotors.

@RideWithBrent Thanks for linking that video! It will be very helpful!

@BamaToy1997 I'll probably order the hub assemblies from you because of all the good things I've heard!

How important is it to do both front HUBs at once?

If I can get 6 months out of the other hub, that would be great because money is tight at the moment.
BUT if it's like replacing an oil filter and not changing the oil (i.e. a waste of the first bearing), then I'll bite the bullet now.

    Thanks everyone!

Just do whichever side has a problem. No point in replacing what’s not broken.

Mine came to light when I got my new frame last year at 170K miles.

All original. One front, one rear was making noise.
I opted to do them all figuring the others weren't far behind against the wisdom of the mechanic who was doing the frame and who comes from the school of Tcomaboy above which I totally understand.

My thinking is the job ain't going to get any cheaper down the road, if you can swing it and think you are going to keep the truck awhile, git 'er done !

"course if you have the shop and skills and still saving.... discard all I said above. ;)

No need to replace the other unless you need to. Some people like to do them in pairs, others just do them one at a time. Really not a "must do" kind of thing.
