Spoiling synthetic winch line

Alright guys, bought a new ARB bumper and a Smittybilt XRC 9.5k winch. The winch obviously comes without the line spooled on it. My question is, should I take this to a shop and have them spool it before it goes on the truck? Or should I complete the install and have it spooled after it's mounted on the truck?

 

I would mount the winch in bumper.
Hook up your rope however it attaches to the drum if you have to bolt on an eyelet like a cable, leave the rest on the floor.
Mount the bumper .
Spool on the rope w power guiding the line on just don't suck in a finger.

 

Kinda what I was thinking. There's not a lot of room to work with on that bumper once it's mounted in terms of feeding the rope in. I'll try to keep all 10 digits with it haha

 

Wear gloves.

 

Just do it yourself it is a piece of cake...and no different than what you will do if you actually use the winch. Put on a pair of good gloves and hold the controller in one hand and the line in the other. The winch moves very slow so it is very easy to ease the line back and forth to spool it up nicely.

 

I would put the truck about 90 ft. Put 10 rolls on the winch. Then use the weight of truck in neutral and wrap around something and winch it in.

 

Just don't spoil it too much or it'll keep wanting to get its way and might not want to work when you want it to.

So how we do it on tow trucks, get 3 wraps on drum. Find something solid to attach the line to.the put truck in neutral, have some watch to make sure it's spoling nice, turn wheels to line up. Never undo last 3 wraps on drum.

You get stronger pulls with more line on drum.always keep it clean and lubed if fibercore line. 20yrs in a tow truck, 1000' of hours winching cars,boats,trucks, a cannon, etc. Rollovers, 2 part lines, etc. Enjoy your new winch.
