Buy a New Camper Shell or wait to find a used one?

I am thinking about buying a camper shell for the past 3 months and still can't find any used ones so should i bite the bullet and buy a new one?

 

Being a 3rd gen'er, there just isn't going to be a lot of them on the used market. I love my topper, I'd say go new with a factory paint match.

 

Is the third gen bed a different size? Took me forever to find a used cap, and I almost bought one in a different color just to be done with the search, but it was a little far and I didn't want to bother with vinyl wrapping it or painting it. I ended up finding a use aluminum contractor cap that I liked and was in black so I picked that up for pretty cheap. While I was paying for it someone else called and wanted to buy it, and it was only on craigslist for a day! Tough to find used, just like good used Tacoma (takes time)

 

I just had a Leer 180 with side windoors installed on my 2016 MGM AC long bed (and love it).

I would have loved paying less than $2400 but the odds of my specific shell coming up on the used market in any reasonable time frame and in good condition are almost nil. Plus, like my truck i received it new and get to be the one to break it in.

Yes it costs perhaps double to go new, but you get exactly what you want when you want it.

Where are you located? I saw a third gen white cap for like $1200 here

 

There are a few used ones floating around, but even the used caps don't have much time on them, so they aren't that cheap. I've seen a couple used for $1800 around here, which is more expensive than what I can get new.

 

I saw someone on here paid over $3k new

You get what you pay for, I would buy new if its with in your price range.

 

just have to be patient I found my snug top fully loaded with tilt window, pet screens, carpet and LED lights for $800 paint matched MGM... took me 4 months to find it but was worth the time and effort searching for it IMO

 

Atleast yours was cheaper. I got a 180XR for the dclb and it ran me 2800...
