I'm with ya... A little room would go a long way to being more comfortable. Something with some more capability wouldn't be bad either.

Actually the 10 speed in the F150 I drove was extremely smooth in its shifts. But, spending a lot of time in my Dad's 3rd gen, the transmission isn't that bad to me.

Agreed. In an attempt to up the MPG, ALL manufacturers are using these multi speed complicated transmissions. I have a 2017 Silverado 5.3 with the 6 speed. Even the 6 speed hunts around more than I'd like. At least the haven't forced the auto start/stop feature, although that's another terrible feature that will be making it's way to a truck dealer near you soon!

I would definitely buy another if/when I have to move on from my 08. Tacoma is the perfect size for my needs, it handles our Home Depot trips, dirtbikes, camping/hunting gear and whatever towing I need to do with it once in a while. Really glad I waited until I found my DCLB, the 6' bed makes a big difference in usability I think. I was converted from "American" brands when I bought a used Corolla with 150k a few years ago to use as a commuter. I put 75 miles a day on it for a year and a half and only had to change the oil. Only other truck I would buy if I really had to would be dodge w/ a 5.9 cummins.

I will most likely eventually get another tacoma. I had an 01 until it got to 200,000 and I was spending hours each week fixing it. My 09 is only at 110,000 so I've got another 90,000 to go before I consider getting rid of it. There are definitely other cars I like, but I can't see not owning a pickup and there aren't any other pickups I'd consider.

I'll buy another Tacoma, but it will definitely be a DCSB next go around. I loooooove my access cab but the practicality of it is dwindling as kids are within the next 3-5 years.

Yeah, I'm right there too. And the 2.7 isn't going to cut it when we move up to a bigger sailboat that can accommodate kids.

No, I'm definitely not getting another Tacoma. This one will last me forever so I won't need another one anyhow <-- see what I did there :D

I'm hoping this one outlasts me. It took me years and thousands of dollars to make it a usable truck. The last thing I want is to go down that path again with a new truck. I would definitely not buy a Gen3. Most likely I would look for an older Tundra, back when they were a Tacoma with a V8. I have no desire for any of the new technology. I might even get an old restored 1978 Ford.

I'm praying that the re-introduction of the Ranger and refreshes of other light trucks might push Toyota to innovate a bit more. I'd love to stay in the Taco family once I'm ready to step up to a new truck... but it's hard to justify with some of the other options out there right now...

I like my Tacoma but time to move on. Trading truck in for 2017 Pro 4Runner. Just landed at the dealership. Picking it up in a couple of days.

I've owned the "big 3" diesels, 03 cummins, 05 duramax, 04 power stroke, several 1500 gas trucks from ford and chevy, a few rangers, etc. I came to my senses that i was wasting money on these trucks i wasn't even using their full potential of. I feel like the tacoma is the perfect vehicle. I can actually use it for what it is, looks good, much more reliable than anything else I've had, fits in tighter spaces, easier to park, with the camper shell on, there is TONS of room for my hunting gear, guns, camping stuff, etc....I will def buy another one when its time to upgrade to a 4 door from my reg cab.

EDIT-not to mention I also towed a uhaul with my 2.7 reg cab cross the rocky mountains from southern CA, to OH, I-15 to I-70, just kept it in 4th gear and it was perfectly fine. That uhaul was packed too.

If I were to have to replace my Tacoma today, I'd most likely get another one. I use my truck for "truck stuff" a lot (towing, hauling) but the size of the Tacoma is usually sufficient for my needs, and I use it more like a Jeep than a truck most of the time. I do wish it had more power though.

If I didn't get another Tacoma, I'd probably get a first gen Tundra.

My 06 DCLB TRD Sport is the perfect truck for most of my daily driver/weekend-warrior needs, however I do wish it would be a bit roomier for the family on longer trips (especially having a 14 year old who is already pushing 6'2). That being said, the Tundra and other full-size trucks (none of which appeal to me) are just too large IMO...I really don't need or want that much truck, especially with daily driving around the city and parking garages. Plus, the more room we have, the more s**t my sons tend to haul with them on trips, so limited space is not always a bad thing. The plan (as of now) is to eventually hand this one down, at which time I would purchase a 3rd gen (or newer 2nd gen) Tacoma.

That's impressive. My last "big tow" was across Michigan and the 2.7 was a dog and sucked down the fuel at 15mpg, though I'll admit I was doing 75-80 most of the time in 5th gear and a sailboat probably has much worse aerodynamics than a uhaul.

Probably. I would say I was at the max weight of 3500lbs, but needless to say the ol 2.7 did just fine. RPMs were typically around 3500 in 4th
