My wife and I are moving back west in December. Loaded up the trailer this evening to make sure everything was good to go.

The trailer is a twin axle equipment hauler. Deck length is 20ft. Has brakes at each wheel with a brakeaway kit. It's hooked to the truck with a 1,200lb weight distribution hitch with friction sway control. Thanks @MattN03 for the brake controller.

Trailer: 2,500#
Car: 2,500#
Bike: 810#

With the bike chock, E-track, and straps we'll call it 5,850# total weight.

Accelerates slow as a pig but pulls straight and stops just fine. The drive is going to be 4,600 miles. Keep your fingers crossed for me

I cleaned it out earlier in the week so I could find my tire gauge. Now I use the center of the shit ticket roll as a pen and gauge holder.

 

Finished up the last of the planned mods before deer season opens on Sunday, Oct 1 by dipping the wheels. Mine were pretty scuffed up, so it is quite an improvement.

 

Check your fluids and tire pressures a couple times a day. Know the 'max hot' psi on the trailer tires

Just changed my serpintine belt, coolant, brake fluid, X-case, and 3rd. Will be making lots of stops along the way to check things out...and let the dog pee. I will be in no hurry

 

Grease the trailer axles/hubs..?

Seen more than one smoked set a rollers sitting on the shoulder west of Amarillo...

 

I plan to a day or two before we depart. On a side note, I spend two months a year in South Florida for work and I can't even tell you how many boat trailers I've seen on the side of the road missing a wheel.

 

Got a plan for protecting the load from stones/debris/grime..? I'd get some packing foam and a roll of wrap... do the whole bike and at least pad/tape the windshield on the car

Tight is right - nothing , that'll flap, buffet or chafe

 

I switched out my front grill to a prefabbed billet, not sure how I fully feel about it, might smoke my headlights to balance out the contrast.

Call me crazy... But I think there is a little more direct route between Ft. Brag and Oregon haha!

 

I've got the black ones but kinda dig the red. My vote = keep

 

I have to ask and not trying to be a smart ass but why such an indirect route?
