My taco is bone stock, it is a 2012 bought new September 2011. It was the only standard available in NM. Found this site and I'm overwhelmed with the amazing information. Researching a cover and rack so I can lock my ski's and gear. Also fed up with the dealer trying to sell me muffler bearings so will be performing all maintenance from now on. I don't have anything more to say, so here are a couple pictures. :D

I'll answer for OP. It's a glider .... sailplane. It's assembled in the picture, so he's obviously at an airport (probably Moriarty).

Most clubs and soaring operations give rides (for a fee) to interested souls. Google "Soaring Society of America". On their website are interactive maps showing location of most soaring operations in the US. Pick one near you and go for it.

A side note: the glider in the photo is a LIBELLE .... an older design but a classic.

Welcome! I also had a tough time finding my 6 speed standard in New Mexico. At the time I bought it, it was literally the only one for sale in NM.

Thanks for the friendly welcome everyone. I am inspired to start modding my Taco with all the information I am finding. It seems the camper shell decision is about the same as what kind of tire or oil decision. :facepalm:That is what makes it fun, and I suppose it is going to come down to the kind of customer service I received when shopping.

gliderpilot nailed it. There are lots of glider clubs as well as commercial operations so please! Do give it a try! It is the best bang for your buck if you are interested in flying.

Its easier to fly it assembled.

Thanks for chiming in gliderpilot  The one in the picture is a Libelle 201 and indeed I fly out of Moriarty. What and where do you :plane: ??

 That was exactly my issue, what is up with that?! Is it just NM? When I bought mine, they said 1 in 300 shipped to the US were standard. Is that really true?

Hi ya Astir. Welcome to TW - watch your wallet. Lots of good ideas on how to spend your savings.

I believe I know you from another local two wheeler group (where I have a different name). Good to see you here, too!

Hey OP. Chiming in doesn't cost much.

Tell Fidel and Billy Hill I said hello .... assuming they're still around.

When I lived in Las Cruces I flew a DISCUS B out of El Paso Soaring Society when they were still around. Fidel worked on it a couple of times back when. Moved back to Texas in 2009 and flew with Fault Line Flyers north of Austin. Late 2014 I finally decided to leave the sport behind and sold the DISCUS to Philadelphia Glider Council .... go to their website and you'll see it -- B7 .... that was mine.

I towed that 30' Komet trailer around for years with my 07 and 12 Tacomas .... so easy I sometimes forgot it was back there!

    Tex

The El Paso club has dissolved, it merged with WSSA in Alamo this past spring. Sad day. I never had the chance to go fly with them. I lived in Las Cruces, but drove to Alamo to learn to fly. Didn't know about the El Paso club at the time.

Will definitely tell Bill and Fidel hello from you. I will see Fidel tomorrow morning, he will be able to tell me the complete history of your Discus... the man is amazing and a true artist with glass.

One of these days, I am going to own a Discus B. That is my dream ship. With a fully functional easy to use trailer!
