Hello. Trying to upgrade my stock headlights on 2016 taco but concerned that 55-watt hids will melt the housing. Anyone using 55 watts on low beams or 35 watts.
    Thanks.

Been running 50w morimoto ballasts for a year now. No melting yet. I'm not the only one either. I have yet to see anyone report melting because of 50w ballasts and I'm on here entirely too much. If I ever do I will immediately remove mine and buy some 35w but until then..

The added risk of more heat and additional power concerns me. There have been occasions where using a 55w ballast will create excessive heat in the bulb and some projector bowls have been melted or burned. I haven’t heard of that problem on these cars but have seen it on similar halogen projector vehicles.

Not to mention the requirement for a relay harness and shortened bulb life as a result of additional wattage.

might be safe in the housing but not on the road. good chance you will be blinding other drivers.

i have 35w HID and they are crazy bright. i would not even want 55w, there's no reason. i mean, if my lows were any brighter it would be too bright even for me not to mention other drivers.

I have 55w in mine with zero issues. I am pretty sure a 55w HID runs much cooler than the Halogen bulbs the truck came with.

50w ballasts aren't going to be much hotter than 35w at the bulb/headlight temperature wise. The issue is not melting but scorching. Over time the added UV in the projector from the 50 or 55 watt ballasts scorch the chrome coating that reflects the light forward. What will happen is over time it will not put out near as much light (once it is scorched in there.) 35w is much safer in that respect and not a whole lot less light output imo. Plus the longer bulb life of being run at 35 watts, I'd def recommend going with a high quality 35w kit.
