I'm interested in this used topper. It has a single T handle for the rear window but the owner doesn't have the key. I guess this is rather common when buying a used topper. For those who have bought it with missing key:

How difficult will it be to get a key cut it? Do I have to replace the whole lock?

Go to your local Lock Smith, if he's good, shouldn't be an issue.

This is a lot better than going to locksmith. They are likely to charge an arm or at least the fingers. You can get an entire new assembly for what the locksmith would charge. Probably even change out the handle design to something better looking.

Went to eBay and found this T handle. eBay #120470488041. Price is about as reasonable as you can get. Going to a camper dealer will get you the same thing or something better for up to about 35 bucks...

I'm not really familiar with the t-handle lock mechanism.. Do they vary from camper manufactures? Or is it a pretty much universal design so that I can swap out one T-handle for another?

Biggest things you would need to know would be whether the handle turns clockwise or counterclock wise, the dimension (width of shaft) and maybe the length of shaft.
If you know the brand of canopy/cap you can probably look up the information at their website and then go to eBay or if your not comfortable with doing this, just go to any canopy/cap/shell dealer and they will give you the right stuff. Ken

A lot of times the key tumbler has a part number on it, mine happened to be 3 letters and 3 digits, i was able to give this information to a local cap/ tanneau cover dealer and he set me up with a pair of keys for 8 bucks or so. Of course i had the truck and cap there to prove i wasn't trying to break into someone elses cap, and to verify the keys worked.

yea, there is a number/letter combo on the lock itself, just get the number and they will either have the key, or get it for you.

    lol,
Heck never even gave it a thought but yes, typically the locks have a limited number of keys sets and they likely do have or can get you a set for the original lock for just a few bucks. Probably even have them in stock.

I'm not sure what you mean by CW or CCW.. Is it the locking direction that's relevant or the unlocking direction?

I have recently done this and called my local LEER dealer. I have an appointment today to get new keys at a quoted cost of $5 each.
