    Hi all,

I am helping a friend buy a 2012 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab 4.6L 4x4 from a non toyota dealer. It has 120,000 miles on it and is in good condition they say. What would be a great deal on this truck or what price should I strive for and what price should I stand my ground on? I tried the usual pricing searches before I came here, but when I bought my last toyota truck, I came in a couple grand less than the best those sites showed, which I think was 9.5% under asking after tax.

Usually before a purchase, I do a ton of research before something like this but a friend called me up tonight and wants me to go negotiate for her tomorrow. I know nothing of Tundras so I do not know any of the trouble spots to look at. Do they have that rust issue the tacoma's had? Do they have anything else to check like on my 3rd gen runner, the timing belt and water pump are good to replace at 150k. Any deal killers to be on the lookout for?

Any help is appreciated. Like i said, I usually research for months, haggle dealers for a few months and then buy the right one. With this, I am flying blind.

Much appreciated. Also, this friend is really cute, so hook a brutha up and make me look good ;-P.

19k. 3 owners. Sounds like base model / stock . Only thing special is the 4x4.

Oh and the dealer is located in Southern California.

Tundra's don't share the rust issue. Biggest issues I see are usually on the 5.7 models, but they are as follows!

-Radiators and water pumps, this is a standard issue with almost every v8 truck ever made
-Transmissions, usually higher mileage abused trucks have issues with the 6 speed that is not repairable.
-Brakes, these trucks eat brakes dependant on the driver, most aggressive drivers require the big brake kit or they destroy the stock rotors over and over.
-Air pumps, they have 2 pumps and 2 valves, they are far more common to fail on the Tundra, so much they extended the warranty on them. Mostly has to do with rust, Cali doesn't suffer like PNW and NE USA. Canada has wicked air pump issues haha.
-Rear axle bearing/axle seal leaks. Expensive to repair.

All of these issues would be spotted at a Toyota dealer but its a good idea to get it inspected at a 3rd party shop to be sure.

The 4.6 is a timing chain. I had a Tundra with the previous 4.7 which was a belt. Can you run a car-fax on it to get a feel for where it was serviced? Sometimes you'll get a feel for the previous owners from that info.

Sounds a bit high end per KBB, I would offer 17,500 that being my limit* if everything checks out.
