You guys realize they said NOTHING about more power right?

You also know that today, the word "competitive" means "efficient."

What they are saying is the Tacoma needs to be more efficient to be competitive. That does not mean a V8 lol. Nor does it mean diesel (ever) or other performance parts.

They are going to lighten it up and use whatever they have (start stop, Atkinson, gearing, etc) to get more efficiency.

Believe it or not, most of the potential Tacoma demographic actually wants efficiency, not more power and torque. This whole forum is just a drop in the bucket of Tacoma sales. They sold around 16K last month. That's a lot of Tacomas.

Seeing as Toyota's rolling out the 2GR-FKS to the Sienna, Camry and Highlander I doubt they'll can it - this is their bread and butter for the next 5 years. They will likely put the 8 speed auto behind it like all other applications of it.

Ranger Raptor is gonna be awesome if they put the 2.7L ecoboost engine in it.

Unfortunately I agree with this. We are definitely the minority as far as what we want in a truck.

I was really hoping to like the ranger raptor, but based on the photos I've seen it looks like an uglier version of the Colorado. As much as I like performance looks matter to me too, and the new Ford's just aren't doing it for me.

    Edited for typos.

That's my take on it as well although I wouldn't be surprised by a turbo 4 banger.

    Expect even more gears.

3.5 with a turbo and the gearing to use it would jump fuel economy AND power, the two things new Taco's really need to remain competitive in the market. When full size 4x4 trucks with 150 more HP are beating your fuel economy in a smaller lighter truck, it's time to wake the hell up. It's not like Taco's are small simple vehicles anymore like they were in the past that attracted a following, they have much of the technology of everyone else packed in them, they just can't seem to pull the HP or fuel economy of everyone else.

Yes, not everyone buying a truck wants a Raptor, or mini Raptor or whatever.

Hoping Toyota is on the same page as you are.

These pickup trucks are morphing into "substitute man cards", lol.

my issue with the raptor is I'm yet to see one on a trail. They're all just fuckin irritating mall crawlers who's daddy has too much money.
And they'll be the first to brag about how great their truck is off road, yet they've never taken it. and in all fairness it would fucking suck on the trails I go on cause its too big lol. Its hard enough with a DCSB

Doesn't the current Highlander have an 8 speed transmission? I wonder if something similar isn't being planned for the Tacoma.

Called it on the hybrid coming. Everyone saying they want diesel but its just the way of the future that we're going.
When you have makers like Volvo and VW now saying all vehicles will come as a hybrid or fully electric its the way all will be heading. And given Toyota was the lead in Hybrid technology with the Prius its going to happen sooner than later.

I really have no problem with it as long as its waterproof motors etc so we can still do water crossings. Electric motors are amazing for torque.

I'm also calling it I can see it more than likely going to a hybrid 4Runner. Feel like that has more competition between the markets which is why they offer better financing on them. And they also appeal to the soccer moms more, so I can see that becoming a hybrid before our trucks.
