    Hello,

So I was just told that my 2006 4x4 v6 sport access cab with 140k is eligible for a frame replacement. I bought it last December with 132k on it. Apparently, it will take 2-3 months for the frame to be shipped to the dealership and then about 1 week for the mechanics to replace it. I was also told that this is the time to replace anything else wanted since the whole truck is being stripped down. I was also told, that I could bring my own parts, and they would put them on for me. I might consider spending a couple grand on new parts, so what do you suggest fixing?

Overall the truck I thought was in very good condition. I do need new pads, rotors, and calipers in the front and they quoted me about 1k in parts and labor for OEM(yes I know its crazy expensive), but I think it would be a lot cheaper if I did it during the tear down. I might also do it myself; I am pretty sure all of it is original, ive never done it before, but there are so many videos I feel confident in doing it myself.

A few things they said people typically change follows. -Water pump -Spark Plugs ( I could probably do) -Fluids (but Ijust did differential, tranny, etc at about 135k) -Bearings -U joints or leaf springs (There is a possibility these will be included in the replacement for free) -Shocks/struts

I am listing all the work done to the vehicle that I know about below excluding some minor things and oil services.

-3miles lol? Undercoating and visual inspections
    -10k fuel injector service
    -15k spark plugs/xfer case oil/diff fluid/lube knuckles (hubba hubba)/tranny fluid/
    -30k power steering fluid
    -106k replace rear leaf springs
-134kfront/rear diff service/transfer case svc/drain refill coolant/flush auto trans ( I did this right after buying to know when it was done)
-137k drain a/c plug to prevent water back up in cab

The one problem with the vehicle I think won't get fixed is my left turn signal light cluster in the dash. For some reason the left turn blinker in the truck doesn’t work but the signals work on the truck just fine. It was like some outrageous amount to fix, so that is not getting touched. Anyways, I love my taco and I am really pleased with Toyota overall for how they handle the frame issue. My concern is changing out parts that are still in decent shape could be a waste of money,so what are your suggestions, or what would you do?

    Thanks :)

Although logic would tell you that the dealer should give you a deal on replacing parts that are already apart, that doesn't seem to be true. Most people on here are getting a bill for $3500 for extras. That seems to be the common number no matter what you have done.

Eligible and actually getting a frame are two very different things. Do You have a 10mm perforation?
No? Than nice essay, I'm sure your truck would like to read it.
Yes? Than no shit, go get it done.
How can you be pleased with out experiencing it? Ever been told to kick rocks by them? I have.

I have a 10mm perforation and the frame is coming to be replaced. Seems like kind of a douchy response on your part? Yea, duh getting the frame done, question is what else.

I wouldn't pay the dealer for anything extra. A lot, if not everything you mention, is doable diy stuff. Plus you learn more about your truck, and it's a great reason to buy tools! Win win!

It's yo money, no one gunna stop you from throwing it out the window. One of the major reasons this suit happened the way it did is because folks ran up $2.5k bills for crap the dealer should have done for free. If they suggested all that crap to you, they must smell something. Job security for the stealership, maybe they will leave a mint on your seat after?

Depends on what you have done. Some people have to fight with the service manager for them not to include labor on certain things because they will already have to take them apart to do the frame swap. I would talk with the rep you spoke with and get a full print out of the complete services they are going to do for the frame swap and see if any of the parts you want replacing are stated in the work order. I would also suggest trying to grab a factory service manual (FSM) in PDF then you can review the whole frame swap process and verify that those parts will becoming off. That way if they try to charge you labor you have a way of fighting it with the service manager.

I agree with checking ahead of time to make sure they really will install things for free.

The only thing I would do with a frame swap would be a new suspension. This is the time to get a nice lift kit or change everything out. I don't do suspensions myself. Something I would ask about would be a new timing chain and water pump. If they will do it for the costs of parts, might be worth considering.

On brakes, the discs are very easy to do yourself. $1,000 should be criminal to charge for brakes. They are double charging you on labor for all the parts. They should only be charging for labor once.
Now the drums can be a bitch, especially on an older truck where everything is corroded.

If there are certain parts that are required to remove then reinstall during the frame swap.....then yes, it's reasonable to assume there would be no charge to install a new part that you provide. There's really no difference in removing and old part and putting it back on vs removing and old part and reinstalling a new part.

However, parts that are not directly related to the frame replacement? I'd make sure to cross all my T's and dot all my I's and know exactly what I'm going to be charged before hand
