    Hey all!

I'm new the the 1st Gen world, but not new to Toyota. Im a regular/vendor on mud for 100 series cruisers.

I'm excited about the new truck. It's a 96 LX 2.7 5-speed with approximately 300k miles. No real history so I think it's the original motor/trans. No rust, and overall a nice truck.

I do have a few questions though. Two things I noticed when inspecting was an oil leak and p0170 CE code. I initially thought the leak was from the oil pan but then saw residue up near the filter. Is there a common leak area around there? Im hoping maybe it was just a poorly installed oil filter and the residue wasn't cleaned.

The CE light is a bigger concern as we have emission inspections here in Albuquerque. I've searched and it seems it could be a lot of things from 02 sensor to fuel pump or filter to mass air flow sensor and so on. It hesitates pretty badly when cold then runs like a champ when warm. I'm wondering if that's an help maybe narrowing it down?

    Thanks!

Photos of current rides. We might have a slight addiction.

I have a different motor, but welcome to tw..theres a 4cyl section that might help you narrow it down.

Whoops. I was trying to go off of memory, but the actual code it was throwing is p0171. Bank 1 too lean. It sounds like a lot of people just clean the MAF and that takes care of it, but since mine is hesitating so badly, I'm wondering if it's more than that.

    Pretty much stock right now
I've had several 2.7s, and never had a leak near the filter. That is if you don't count the mess you can make when changing the oil if your not careful.

The mount for the filter is removable though. I had to take one off to remove a stuck-on oil filter a few years ago. There may be a gasket under there that could be leaking. I don't remember what is there exactly due to my rage at whoever over tighted the filter.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't seem to be actively leaking so maybe it was just someone who didn't clean up after swapping filters. I never even considered that I guess because my brain thinks people would be like me and clean that up before finishing up.
