I don't have much stuff so I'm thinking of renting one of the uhaul trailers and towing it behind the taco from California to Georgia.

Any tips as I have never towed anything in a street truck. I do have my class A but the tacoma ant no big rig, and I plan on moving next year so no rush.

I plan on towing less then 5k btw.

ECT and take it slow with some mirror extensions. I moved from HB to Georgia in '04. The drive is not too bad .

-Be sure to properly distribute weight in the trailer so that you have 10-15% of the weight of the trailer and cargo is on the tongue.
-Don't drive faster than is safe for road conditions, 55-60 is ideal IMO.
    - If towing over 5000lbs, recommend using a weight distributing hitch.
    - try to avoid transmission hunting gears especially when in hilly terrain by locking out 6th and possibly 5th.

Read owners manual for towing tips.

Transmission pump is engine rpm dependent, so don't think you're doing it favors by running low rpms. Staying out of overdrive gears means higher flow rates and lower overall transmission temps.

My old FJ cruiser went cross country twice with 3500 lbs behind it. Going into an overdrive resulted in a trans temp warning within a few minutes on hill climbs.

Tongue weight should be lower - I've had success and it feels comfortable at 150-200lbs. Make sure trailer is loaded in a balanced way with as much weight over trailer axle as possible.

Make sure to cross chains properly, wiring loom to protect your harness and all of the lights working. I also lock a tow chain to the truck for security.

Love it went from a 2 bedroom apartment on 1st and walnut to a 5 bedroom with a movie theater bonus on a acre for a 1/3 of the price(short sale at the bottom of the crash). Very different here though. I was ready to settle down .I could not imagine raising my two sons in HB .I'm in McDonough close to Jackson still pretty quiet out here .......Georgia is growing fast though.

Keep ECT on and use the shift limiter to keep it in 4th. Take it nice and slow and enjoy the drive. Congrats on making it out of CA, I'm trying to as well but my wifes career path looks a lot brighter if we stay here so it looks like im stuck. Please let us know how it goes, I'm not aware of and write ups on long distance towing.

Hey Juke, GA is nice and plenty to do. Not sure the traffic situation in Anaheim buuuuuuut.... Traffic is freaking horriable here, especially if you live in Lawrenceville going in and out of Atlanta.

That's good to know and yea the traffic here is bad pretty much everywhere as people are getting into accidents on a daily basis.

Just click your shifter to the left "S" and you'll be good to go. It starts out on 4th gear, which is what you want.
