Yup the WIX is a complete magnetic inline paper filter unit. It's a throwaway after your determined preset mileage.

Sorry I missed this post. I added my filter after the initial install of the bigger cooler. I just put the pump hose right on the filter to fill it up and make up for the volume of the extra hose.
    Hope that helps

I'd follow typical severe trans filter rules for towing operation, since you're towing and wheeling. 15k is usually for heavy duty and severe if you do the two mentioned often. 30K was the usual "major service" before, but I think newer intervals can go much longer on most newer "cars" that don't fall under the severe maintenance regimen. Some go 60k or more nowadays. Not sure how often you'll be doing what you do, but the filter is easy to swap and not that expensive vs, dropping the pan for some trans services.

I'll probably swap mine at 30k or earlier if the plastic casing doesn't hold up at the barbed ends. Just keep an eye on it and don't over tighten the hose clamps on the plastic fittings. I use factory style spring clamps for this reason.

Same here, factory spring style clamps (in this case mine were Honda versions but same thing).
And if the WIX is just a relabled magnefine then the barbed end are very sturdy. I have never had one fail or leak in 15+ years of usage on several vehicles. Always comforting to see all that superfine iron particles on the magnet in the filter rather than accumulating one the transmission solenoids.

Looks like the old black nylon versions of the magnefine have all been replace by a new metal cased version

I just followed this advice posted here and installed the auxiliary cooler.

I just wanted to check and make sure I followed the correct procedure.
The outflow for the oem cooler is on the bottom right?
Which means that would install it on the top intake of my cooler.

Outgoing then feeds back into the trans line.

I'll take pics if I need to.

If you are planning to do this install, this pump is worth its weight in gold. I used it to fill the cooler and each new line and needed almost no extra fluid when I check it underneath. Also makes the check process easier. Just stick it up into the hole and pump a few squirts in. This one seems to have a valve in the head so it doesn't lose any when you stop pumping

Have you found that you have ever needed to run the fan or pin the thermostat while towing this summer? I have not exceeded 210F in the pan or 240F out of the converter with the cooler without a fan on it.

Also to note, this does nothing to the engine coolant system. I have not exceeded 200F while towing.

Been a while for this thread...

I'm having some weeping at the filter Inlet. I think I'm going to get a new hose and eliminate the filter. I wiped some off with my finger already. Has anyone else had this?

I haven't had any leaks. Any chance the plastic nipple on the filter cracked?

Possible. I think I'll just ditch the filter and run one hose.

I want to cut the filter open to see what's inside after the 10k moles

never had any leaks on my magenfines in over 15 years. but i also used factory spring clamps rather than the worm gear ones you are using. is it possible that clamp has cut into the hose??

No it's actually been working out great as is. I might consider mounting the cooler sideways since apparently the manufacturer recommends that. It works fine as is so if ain't broke don't fix it.

The fan may not be necessary with towing but I have noticed improvement in trans and coolant temps with the thermostat pinned and fan running while off roading on 100 plus degree days.
