That may be true but back then the trailers were a half of the size and weight. Now peeps want to take their Mc Mansions to the lake along with all the toys.

Amen to that brother! Some of the rigs I see and camp next to are absurd in the extreme but in the end I suppose it to each their own.

I have Sumo's and highly recommend them, they are working great regardless of the load in the back (meaning trailer tow vs weight in the bed, etc). Keeps the truck level under load.

Do they affect the ride when the bed is empty?

These days people let the bank tell them what they can afford. If the bank (or credit card) approves your purchase people think they can afford it. I have a LOT of toys but the house and the truck are the only things I don't own outright at the end of the month.

I am amazed at how many guys at the racetrack have $40-100,000 RV setups compared to us at their age living in a tent. McMansion is a pretty good descriptor. Then there is their racing equipment.......

Very minimally, if I tried to notice a difference I could feel it right after install. After a week or 2 I forgot they were even there.

Fastway e2 Adjusted properly with our Winnie drop 2800 lbs . World of difference when trunnon bars are off one notch . Measure wheel wells and adjust on flat surface . Should make a giant difference . My truck is all stock , hitch adjusted right and wheel well measurments are exactly the same with trailer or not .

As for the lunette I had a custom tongue addition because the old surge break bits drove me crazy:

Please be cautious when doing modifications on that trailer. CARC paint is some nasty stuff the dust from grinding it off is really not good for your health. The fumes from it burning are even worse.

I always wear a respirator when grinding or sanding the paint on this thing, but I have to be honest in that I don't know what protections my welder took when he was working on the tongue. I was warned about the CARC when I first got it and have been careful since.

I think the shocks would help stiffen the ride up a bit. But then ride quality when not loaded may be a little rougher

Since this is the towing thread, I feel that my question is best suited here...

I’ve been doing some research on what factors come in to play when determining the tow capacity? The reason why I ask is, I bought my Taco to do two things, trail rides and towing my Miata track toy. I currently have King rear shocks with the OME Dakar leaf pack. The truck tows surprisingly well. To satisify my urge to give myself more wheel travel for the trail rides, I purchased the BAMF rear shock relocation kit and the Archive Garage rear shackle flip kit. How will the rear shackle flip kit effect the towing?

Here is a more recent picture when I picked up another Miata for cheap. Not a terrible amount of sag.

Just got back from over 800 miles of towing fun bringing back my brothers car that got destroyed by a deer. I was shocked to average 17-18 mpg pulling at 65 mph from Colorado to Iowa.

Looks like Bambi wanted to get into the car with your brother! Good to hear you had a successful tow and it's always nice to have the sibling owe you!

I pull a 2017 RPod 182G on a regular basis. I am running a 2017 TRD DCSB with Firestone airbags, 2inch lift and standard hitch. Fully loaded the trailer runs around 2tons, plus four passengers with bikes and gear in rig. I usually average around 10mpg in the pacific northwest here, lots of mountains and curvy roads. I can maintain 65 on freeway typically, can maintain this on all the hills I have pulled. It works the truck for sure but doesn't overstress it. Airbags made a huge difference in ride quality and control. Pulls better than my old ranger with 4L or my cherokee with 4L. Also, I picked up the shift sense pro, love it for towing.

Did the Shift Sense Pro make all that much difference over manually shifting in S mode when your towing your RP and gear??? I sometimes wish I went with the Firestone airbags over the Super Springs though they have preformed okay. Still with towing the single axle RP 180 I with a WD/anti-sway hitch I do have allot of bounce in the trailer. I'm thinking of upgrading the factory shocks to see if that gives and improvement or maybe that's just the nature of the beast when pulling a single axle RV.

Total weight is around 2300 lbs. I've got 275s and I found that the truck fairly adequately towed this thing around. 70 mph light grades and below, mountain grades I held just north of 60 at about 4K RPM. Seemed like it was willing to accelerate if I wanted to push the RPMs.
That said, I picked the aluminum trailer to save weight. Pricey, but it weighs 400 lbs less than a similar steel.
