Also, @Trident904 can you hook up @Overland_Tennessee with Georgia spots to wheel? I mentioned to him during the race that we know of a bunch of good ones

Would it be possible to post an example map coordinate in the format you use to see if my GPS nav app works for it?

    Thanks.

It'll work. The maps are posted in all 3 formats, GPX, KML, and GeoJSON. What map app are you using?

Currently View Ranger. Just started using it. I don't want to invest a ton of time learning it if it's useless for TSD rallies.

ViewRanger uses GPX so you're golden. It'll work just fine.

Trying to learn the skills here. ... I can download way points and routes via Internet to my device. For the rally, do you provide GPX routes or just points? How do you provide them? Down loadable file?

    Thanks.

Thanks. Got it to work on the android with view ranger. Not on ios though. Not sure why it won't save the file.

    Thanks for the help.

At the rally, do you provide the tracks like this in downloadable form or will we have to enter the coordinates manually?

If down loadable... is it over wifi or do we need a device that can plug into your computer?

I'm still trying to decide on a new device. Android. ... Apple .... Garmin... ugh.

There's an apple app or an android app and he'll send you the file which you upload. So Wifi would be your answer

Are you having this on USFS roads again like last year and are you going to let them know what you are planning on doing and how you are doing it?

We will have it where we see fit, and if you want to avoid being around it you always have the option of staying in Mauldin, SC that weekend. Otherwise, you can hit the trails that you, and I, and the American public own, and expect to see us there.

This event is no different then the gumball or a any other road rally held on public roads. The only thing we do different is we use unpaved roads

See this is where you are wrong. A gumball rally while a timed rally is highly scrutinized by the public. Plus they work with local authorities in the area they are coming in prevent any issues. As well they are obeying the laws mostly and really can't destroy the roads.

The Red Clay Rally does this.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTtwdIifP1E&t=9s

Illegal bypass of USFS land. It's not a marked road. They tore that whole area up. It looked nothing like this before the event. And just because someone else might have gone through it before them doesn't make it right to use it for extra bonus points. The whole thing stinks. Not only are they using the illegal trail but they are also driving through the woods to bypass the illegal trail. What was a small fixable problem is now a much, much bigger one.

Not only that but several videos of trucks flying down those trails were posted up.

I'll say it again. Have the organizers moved the event to private property or have they gotten permission to hold this event on USFS roads? If not I suggest they do so. Also are sponsors aware of what happened this year? Do they understand by sponsoring an event like this they can be held accountable for the organizers actions?

Actually I've been out there before the rally took place and the "bonus section" looked similar to this. Am I justifying the destruction of trails? No!

where's the posted up videos of trucks flying down trails?

I've been part of on road rally and none have worked with authorities. Have you ever done one?

And just because one group did bad stuff didn't mean everyone did. Many teams didn't even go towards that one section.

The roads are public. It doesn't matter if your group is 2 vehicles or 20. As long as you observe the posted speed limit signs, (if there are any) you are golden. I have seen FS speed signs from 10mph to 20mph. If you are standing still, 20 mph looks fast.... But it's still just 20 mph.

Roads and trails are one thing, but people should not blaze their own. It happens though, and you can't go anywhere anymore without seeing evidence of it. The rally appears to be a small sample of the off pavement community. In that sample, I'm sure you will have a few that feel it's ok to bush whack. If they do, they should be disqualified and made to repair the damage. Their information is on record after all.

For the rest of us.... There is nothing wrong about the rally. It is the average Joe American enjoying the public lands that the public owns. Be it in a group, on the clock, or with a deadline, there is nothing wrong with driving these roads if you follow their rules.
