The same shit everyone else has.
Kickin around the idea of whippin up a small roof rack basket for my truck using Unistrut.

We've built one for my buddy's T4R and it worked out well.

I've looked through the thread and searched Google, didn't see what I was looking for.

How many guys have these DIY racks on their access cab?

Lookin for some inspiration and possible dimensions. I have an idea on my head and was hoping to see it visualized before I bought materials.

I plan on bolting it to the crossbars on my Rhino Rack. And maybe even adding a single row light bar to the fairing similar to the Prinsu racks.

How much does that thing whistle? It has got to be noisy with all of those holes in it. I'm sure it's functional, but it's not the most attractive rack out there. JMHO

I had uni struts with rod holders on my topper it only whistled when I put my fishing rods on there.

The one in my buddy's T4R makes no more noise than the oem crossbars do surprisingly and that's with out a fairing. The light bar he put on it makes the noise.

The price and functionality makes the rack attractive for me.

FYI I used white vinegar to etch the metal before applying a coat of paint.

I don't have a lot of good pictures of it, but my rack is Vantech J1000 crossbars, with some steel L-stock between them, with unistrut for the extra crossbars. It's pretty strong and doesn't whistle all.

    That's basically my plan

Run 2 pieces of 2" L channel - one on each side - and mount them to the Rhinorack crossbars with U bolts. Then add 4 pieces of Unistrut width wise for additional crossbars.

Here's what I came up with yesterday as a quick mock up with scrap pieces of steel I had on hand

I plan on mounting the L channel to the bottom side of the existing rack so the cross bars are all the same height to cut down on wind noise.

I need to stop and grab another section of Unistrut and two 2" L sections after work and some hardware then I can start fabbing it up.

That's pretty much what I did. Except my crossbars have threaded holes on the end of them, so I was able to actually bolt the L stock into the end of the bars.

It's really sad we live in a world where you need that much security for a fishing pole...

Sad. But if I had my fly rods strapped to my roof, they'd be locked up too

I do dig the pole holder idea. Once I get a bed rack of some sort, I plan on doing similar for the above mentioned fly rods

Yep, if we'd go back to actually punishing people for theft it'd at least slow it down. :( I made a rod tube out a piece of PVC with well caps on it; it bolts to my Yakima when carrying my rods that don't break down.
