With the 11.22" width, how bad are 285's on compact snow compared to 265's? Having had a few near misses with 12.5" wide tires on previous generation Toyota pick ups has left me gun shy. They just didn't have the weight for the width and got too much float. The 3rd gens are substantially larger than the old trucks I used to run though and perhaps might be better. Can anyone chime in with some real world experience between the 265 and 285 width? Or even with some 255 experience.

I make a lot of long trips to the ski hill on compact snow in -20C weather.
