I briefly plugged a small TV in to the bed of my truck to test it out for planned tailgating this weekend. It tested great, so I unplugged it and packed it away. I drove the truck about an hour later and everything was fine. This morning the battery was completely dead. Well I did have dash and cockpit lights, but just clicks on the turnover.

I did not manually turn the outlet/power button off in the cockpit when I was done testing the TV, but I assumed that just shut off on its own when i shut the truck off. Plus nothing was plugged in to the outlet anyway. Anyone experience anything like this?

This is a 2011 TACO with about 50k miles, and I think this is the original battery. Still, the coincidence of me playing with the outlet has me perplexed.

If the wiring has been used in the past with no problems quite possible the battery just failed

If your talking inverter here leaving it on might draw the battery down enough to cause problems.

Simple matter to test the battery

That's pure coincidence. My battery lasted just over 5 years, then went completely dead. If the engine is running while using the inverter, you will have no battery issues.

There's nothing wrong with your truck. You just got lucky with 6 years of service on an original battery. By lucky, I mean it didn't leave you stranded somewhere... mine died suddenly one day at around 4 years old. No warning.

My wife’s 4Runner needs a battery every 3 years like clockwork.
