Also, during the initial phase where you see how the truck is shifting different, driving differently, and still relearning... you may see a hit to MPG. (1-2 mpg). Not uncommon and should clear up once all the relearning has completed and you find the shift map which works for you.

I get all the general questions, but ppl need to realize the more time Mat spends responding to them, the longer it will take to get the files out (not directed at you).

 

I can’t agree with this anymore. I went from 20 mpg with 1.02B, then 18ish during testing of 1.02C.

Now that I’m running a 1.02C for 220 miles, it’s been creeping up back to 20.

 

wheew. 04B03 time coming up next.

All in all, we've hit a couple small speed bumps along the dev path but I am very happy with how much has been done so far with this truck when we just started like 90 days ago!

@dYL0n Any chance you have a 'tuning for dummies' video/tutorial? I'm to the point where I don't even know what to do after I buy the tune (assuming I do).

As much as I've tried to keep up with this thread, it's blown up and I'm pretty lost with all the updates and the tuning lingo.

What I do know is I'm not a fan of the way the 3rd gen shifts, and the ECT is still pretty crude. Prolly shoulda bought a manual.

I’ll make another one this evening (working on the 4runner now, then doing differential fluid / rotate the Tacoma).

 

Agree with the need to take your time before putting out a review - with 1.01b, I truly feel the benefits and full smoothness after about 100-150 miles. It's noticeable after flash, but not very refined and smooth feeling until more than a few miles have been logged. 1.02b was awesome at flash, but after around 100 miles started to bog a lot and struggled a bit so I flashed back to 1.01b. I'd suggest flashing and taking a good looong drive and a few trips over at least couple of days with multiple warm-ups before you declare victory or defeat on the new tunes. Mat can't change the learning behavior of the truck, only the inputs it learns from an the learning takes time!

I haven't received the 04B02 files yet, but as a NEW customer (I received the hardware and serial number and have sent in my stock files) I'm not sure what the highlighted text means, since I'm starting out from scratch. Also, when I emailed my stock files I politely asked that V-1.01b that everyone loves be included when you email my files back...

 

Wait for reviews from 1.02C then decide if you want the old stuff.
