So I'm replacing the bushings on my Camburg Uniball UCA's and all is going well until I get to the part where I bolt the UCA to the spindle. I used red thread locker on this bolt a long time ago, and got the bolt of just fine. But I notice some left in the threads. I take a wire brush and get most of it out and I decide to chase the threads with the nut just to be sure.

I don't know how but I somehow seized the nut on the bolt. I put it in the vise heated up the nut with the blow torch and used an air gun. Not gunna happen. I'm guessing the threads got crossed somehow after it was on. Anywho I end up cutting to bolt to retrieve the misalignment spacer for the uniball and set out to find a new grade 9, 5/8" fine thread bolt that is 4.5" long.

No luck. I live in DFW, a major friggin city, and no one has this bolt. Fastenal says they don't have one in stock and there is one place that sells to industrial companies that I have to try on tomorrow. My guess is it will be a no go.

So now my daily driver is out of commission unitll I can have Camburg send me one and maybe a few extras for down the road. How is this bolt non existent in this city???

If the Camburg uniball is the 1.25" then this should work:

I can’t believe I missed that on their site. Now I know for sure it is a grade 9. I thought I’d have to call.

Lol I have the McMaster app! Love that place. I just wasn’t sure of the grading of the bolt. Now I know. Thanks guys! This sucks, but I’m getting a few spares.

Anyone use red thread locker on this bolt? Is this a good idea, or should blue work? I wish it was drilled and had a castellated nut like a ball joint.

I have never used thread locker but I would certainly use blue over red for this application

It is a Grade 8 bolt, or Grade 10.9 if you're using the metric equivalent. If you use a deformed thread nut like Camburg provides, or better yet a nylon insert locking nut, there's no need for thread locker.

Well, just called Camburg to get their torque spec for their Uniball UCA’s, and to be sure Grade 8 is an ok temp fix. It is. (I put my kids in the car with me so I needed assurance.). Grade 9 will be here this week from Fastenal. I found a place that had an 8 equivalent.

Also asked about thread locker. They do recommend red in this application.
